The University of the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Spain) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the European Union-funded PROCLAIM project on online hate speech amplified by AI technologies. The position starts October 1st 2026, with a 2-year full-time contract and a monthly salary of 2.375,61€ (compensation may be higher where the successful candidate accredits recognised professional experience).

We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher working in the fields of social epistemology and/or argumentation theory who specializes on the topics of hate speech, polarization and/or disagreements. The postdoctoral researcher’s primary responsibility will be to contribute to a work package of the PROCLAIM project, which focuses on how online divisive content containing hate speech serves as a driver for offline polarization. Your tasks will include:

(1) providing data collection of instances of divisive (rage-bating) content in online spaces, such as X, Facebook, YouTube or Reddit,

(2) examining how online rage-baiting content results in disagreements that spread hateful and extreme ideologies, resulting in polarization and

(3) identifying the mechanisms through which these online disputes result in offline polarization.

On this basis,

(4) you will help create diagnostic tools (e.g., concept inventories, anticipation guides) to identify these problematic instances of online divisive content and how they spread offline.

The candidate should submit all of the following documents:

1. A letter of application, in which you describe your personal motivation and qualifications for the position. Please include explanations of any circumstances that you would like to be taken into account when considering your application (e.g., parental leave, etc.).

2. A CV.

3. A short research plan explaining your potential contribution to the project (i.e. research ideas with respect to the work package (max. 1000 words).

Deadline: 23rd of June 2026.
