The East Asian Journal of Philosophy (EAJP) is pleased to announce a call for papers for a multilingual book symposium dedicated to Dominic McIver Lopes’s latest work, Aesthetic Injustice.

This symposium is born out of Professor Lopes’s recent visit to China, where he presented his research at several leading universities. These engagements underscored his deep commitment to the global impact of philosophical inquiry and the necessity of cross-cultural dialogue. In an era of increasing interconnectivity, Lopes’s Aesthetic Injustice provides a critical framework for understanding how aesthetic diversity interacts with social justice, cultural property, and international conventions.

Multilingual Format & Author Participation

Continuing EAJP’s mission to dismantle linguistic barriers, this symposium will follow a bilingual format (English and Chinese). To ensure a truly inclusive and interactive dialogue:

  • Translation Guarantee: In line with our commitment to accessibility, the journal will facilitate the translation of accepted submissions. If a paper is submitted in English, it will be translated into Chinese for publication (and vice versa), ensuring the discourse is available to both linguistic communities.

  • Author’s Reply: A central feature of this symposium is the direct engagement with the author. Dominic McIver Lopes will offer a comprehensive reply to the selected commentaries, fostering a vibrant, bidirectional exchange of ideas.

Themes

We invite contributions (approx. 2,000–3,000 words in English or 3,000–5,000 characters in Chinese) that engage with themes including:

  • Aesthetic diversity and social identity.

  • Aesthetic injustice in the context of cultural appropriation.

  • Intersections of aesthetics, law, and institutional justice.

  • Comparative perspectives on aesthetic value.
