Hi John,

I've been using iSqueak for my research apps. It was working fairly
well, but the update to IOS5.0 seems to have caused problems. When I
started the new Xcode, it complained about the compiler GCC 4.2 no
longer being supported. I changed it then to LLVM GCC4.2 and compiled.
It built, but it never launched. Instead, I got an error message
"Error launching remote program: failed to get the task for process
9026." I've had problems running it for Xcode before, so I just
stopped the process and then proceeded to try just launching the
installed program on my iPad. It started, but just hung at a light
gray screen. I tried switching to Apple LLVM Compiler 3.0, the
recommended compiler, but that had the same results. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Jeff

Interestingly enough, I've found a work around. I archive the application, distribute it, choose to create an IPA, add IPA to iTunes, and sync to the iPad. Then, it works again. That's a little bit of a hassle, but it works.

BTW, it seems like iSqueak is pretty dead in the water (i.e., no development in over a year). That's a shame. While I do have to optimize the Squeak interface for speed, it is peppy enough on an iPad 2 for my purposes.

Cheers,

Jeff

The llvm compiler won't make a workable binary for squeak. Don't know why. The llvm team at apple told me can you tell us where it is broken?

I think you can compile with -O1 but I suspect performance sucks.

Check with Esteban

Btw how are things, working Smalltalk with a client in NYC at the moment, my apps doing well in the store

Actually http://www.drgeo.eu/ was ported to the iPad. Hilliard? Asked me if I could help with the work but it was impossible for me, but I believe Bert did the work so check with him.

I thought I saw a note float by Esteban about updating the iOS stuff
