Philadelphia Residents Against Racism
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COUNTER-DEMONSTRATION
AGAINST NEO-NAZI RALLY
ON BOATHOUSE ROW, OCTOBER 19 AT 11:00 AM
PHILADELPHIA, PA—On
October 19 at noon, a neo-Nazi group called the Keystone State
“Skinheads” will, for the seventh year in a row, hold what they
call their “Leif Ericson Day Celebration” at the statue of
Thorafinn Karsefeni, also known as “The Viking Statue,” on
Boathouse Row on Kelly Drive.
Those opposed to the group organizing in the city will counter their event with
a rally of their own.
In past years, the gathering has drawn upwards of 50 racists
and fascists to Philadelphia unbeknownst to much
of the residents, and served as a recruiting and organizing tool for the Keystone State “Skinheads”. Other
white supremacist organizations such as the California-based American Freedom
Party (formerly known as American Third Position) are also promoting this
year's outing. These and other groups expected to attend are considered hate
groups by several organizations including the Southern Poverty Law Center and
Anti-Defamation League. Furthermore, individuals who have attended past Leif
Ericson Day celebrations have been tied to racist terror organizations such as
the international neo-Nazi network Blood and Honour and the Ku Klux Klan.
Anti-Racists, progressives, and others opposed to this event
will hold a peaceful counter-protest. They encourage anyone who attends to
please bring signs, banners, noise makers or drums. For more information,
please contact Philadelphia Residents Against Racism by email at Phil...@gmail.com.
