Super-storm Sandy Free of tar sands and fracking A History of the Green Left
As the Obama administration prepares to give the green light to the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline, the climate justice movement is again on the march. 40,000 rallied in Washington DC on February 17th in a historic protest to oppose the pipeline, reign in the power of the fossil fuel industry, and demand a political response to climate change.
For thousands of people touched by the ideas of Occupy, the ongoing economic crisis and the growing ecological crisis demand more substantial answers to why Obama is failing us and what it will take to stop climate change and build a just and sustainable world.
Ecosocialists offer a holistic explanation that centers around the operation of capitalism and its endless drive for profit as the chief cause of our ecological crisis. Ecosocialist ideas help to explain why Obama isn’t our ally and why fighting climate change necessitates fighting for an entirely different society free from racism, sexism, and militarism.
The Ecosocialist Conference on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in New York City, aims to tackle these topics and to gather a radical wing of the green movement to discuss and organize for a way forward. We are looking for groups and individuals who agree with the Ecosocialist Statement to endorse, build and participate. We hope this conference will help us move toward a more collaborationist left, and play a role in pushing the climate justice movement toward revolutionary conclusions.
Suggested donation: $5-20, no one turned away for lack of funds.
Registration opens at 9:30am. Opening plenary at 10am followed by three workshop sessions and a closing plenary from 6-7:30pm. Post-conference dinner and drinks (unfortunately not included) immediately afterward.
