Happy birthday to the Slovenia Chapter
This month marks the 15th anniversary for the Slovenia Chapter of the Internet Society.
The Chapter was established in 1996 with 25 members, is celebrating its birthday on the eve of the 20th Anniversary of the Global Internet Society - which is scheduled to take place in 2012.
With these anniversaries, it's more important than ever to make sure that the world's most successful platform for economic growth, innovation, and discovery continues to grow and evolve in a way that you want it to.
Why?
While the Internet helps to shatter barriers between people and nations, there are many challenges and opportunities ahead that could impact your participation in this growing global democracy.
If you are in Slovenia and would like to get involved, the Chapter is currently focused on technical issues related to the Internet technologies, measurements, organizing conferences and events such as the First EU Future Internet Assembly in Bled.

New York Web Day
The 6th annual global OneWebDay took place on Thursday 22 September 2011. The contribution of the Internet Society's New York Chapter was to host respected computer scientist and Internet iconoclast Bob Frankston. He made a presentation entitled "Infrastructure commons - the future of connectivity."
His presentation argued that just as subways, roads and sidewalks are vital infrastructure, the Internet should be no different. Our economy, health and safety depend on our ability to communicate. Yet Internet provision and economy are based on outdated, inequitable, and inefficient telecom models. How do we move to a connected future?
The event, held at NYU's Courant Institute, was moderated by Dave Burstein of DSL Prime and webcast live via the Internet Society Chapter's Livestream channel.
