Dear All,

We were making fairly good progress but from the silence on the list
it appears we've stagnated. Can we get an update on where things are
and what needs to be done? The previous minutes mentioned getting
forms from Registrar General and looking into different registration
options - was this done?

I also note from the minutes of the last meeting that election of
"responsible officers" was deferred, however, I would like to suggest
that in the interim there should be an Ad-hoc Steering Committee to
push things along. I appreciate the fact that several people have
expended their time and effort trying to push things along but
sometimes you have to name something for it to be effective and I
think we need a formal Steering Committee with established ToRs and
roles and responsibilities. Office bearers can be elected once things
are up and running. Right now, I think we're suffering from a case of
"Everybody, Anybody, Somebody and Nobody". (My apologies in advance if
this has already been taken care of - I just haven't seen it in the
discussions).

kind regards,

Towela

Good to hear from you Ma Jere.
I am in a way partly to blame as I was supposed to be in Malawi by
December last year. However things have turned out differently from
the planned ones.

I agree with idea of setting up an Ad-hoc committee as suggested. In
the committee I would suggest Ma T. Jere, Mr D. Chima, Ma C. Fredrick
and S. Simbota to set things up.

Any assistance needed I would be more than glad to provide.

That is my suggestion. I don't know what others think?

Regards,

Blessings

Hi all! I agree with suggested names for the adhoc committee. I would also like to suggest that we arrange for a meeting where those suggested should be told of their responsibilities. It would also be good to agree on what we are to do this year.

I hope this will be in order with every group member so that we move forward instead of being at the same level year in year out.

Thank you for the various responses. Regarding the Ad-hoc committee, I
would recommend that it be comprised of people that are within Malawi
and who are within easy reach of each other for purposes of meeting/
coordinating. I feel that the Ad-hoc committee needs to be a group
that can move/work very quickly to get things done and I think being
in close proximity is a necessity. For that reason, I would not
consider myself a suitable candidate. I am however very willing to
assist with providing input/direction as needed. Could we therefore
nominate someone else to replace me?

On another note, ISOC has a grants program that runs twice a year and
one of the things I picked up from the briefing this year is that
chapters in formation are eligible to apply. You can see the minutes
of the info session at: http://isoc.org/wp/chapter-meetings/

I think we should get our act together and apply for a grant - the
first round is in March and the other one is in September.

regards,

Towela

I seem to also have started my PhD in SA, so my availability in
Malawi would be abit discrete than continuous. Not my support though!

We need to move quick on the issue of grants. I'd suggest someone
volunteers to take it up and we pour our suggestions forward to
him/her, quick, quick.

Thank you all for re-energising this again. I will try to see some other people who we can
work with on this issue

Hello,

Thank u all for re-energising the issue. Was the organization registered at the Registrar's office? I think we have to speed this if we haven't. Can we know where we r currently on the ground work? If I remember well on the last meeting some members were assigned roles and were supposed to report back during the follow up meeting which unfortunately didn't take place.

I live in Blantyre and am available for any help. Tho am currently outside Malawi but will b back on the 12th of February.

Regards,

Wisely
