Hello Malawi ISOC Chapter Group
I just recently joined the group with the same aim of formulating the Chapter in Malawi. I met Blessings Msowoya who helped me get here. We actually wanted to start the same but were told that Blessings had already started one. Its been nice to see what Blessings had done and that together with him decided to continue the process.

I was just wondering if the members of the group are still interested in the initiative since I am told it stalled a little bit because Blessings was away. I checked on the site http://groups.google.co.mw/group/isocmalawi/about?hl=en and found that there were 11 members. Do we all still hold the same passion. Please respond as we are in process of inviting atleast 14 more member to join and need to know how much effort we should exert.

Regards

Hello everybody,

Let me take this opportunity to request those of us who have expressed
to be part of this to extend the invitation to others who may be
willing to join.

This is an ISOC google group. It will be part of the communication
channels of the ISOC Malawi Chapter.
We need people who have a passion for internet connectivity,
leadership and outreach to join the the people who have expressed
their interested to make this alive.

Some of the suggested ideas include fundraising for internet
connectivity in schools(primary schools, sec etc imagine raising some
funds to connect a primary school in chiradzulu or Chikwawa and have
students have emails etc), sharing knowledge between academia and
industry(for example engaing industry gurus to teach a partticular
topic in colleges that may require industry experience or just a
different aproach), engaging government on internet standards and
infrastructure; promoting content accessibility by advancing the
MIXP(e.g setting up web, DNS servers at MIX) making it easily
accessible to all Malawians; promoting a culture of research by having
a local journal which will publish papers which may also be published
in ISOC and IETF journals; collecting and publishing internet
connectivity statistics and many more that you may also think of.

Regards,
Blessings

Dear All,

Just wanted to register my interest in this initiative. I joined ISOC
in March this year and one of the things on my list of to do's was to
form a local chapter. I met Anthony at a forum in Nairobi and when I
shared this with him he told me about this group. Look forward to
working with you all.

regards,

Towela

Hello ISOC Malawi Group
I just checked this morning on the site http://groups.google.mw/group/isocmalawi/about?hl=en and found out that there are 28 members who have registered interest to form an ISOC Chapter. I think we now have the numbers required to start this up.

Blessings and all. We need to agree on (date, place/venue, time) we should hold a meeting so that we can kick-start the whole process.

Please also note that I had approached Dr. Paulos Nyirenda to help us in the process. He has vast experience and knowledge in the ICT field and has met and worked with some of the people we will be meeting at ISOC personally. Though he is busy, he accepted to work with us on an advisory role  and whenever we need his assistance he would be available.

Viva ISOC Malawi
