May we suggest a day when we can meet and discuss way forward?

I am suggesting this coming Saturday, 18th Sept, venue would either be
in Blantyre or Lilongwe.

What do others think?

We need the meeting to have the chapter officially established.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Blessings.

Saturday could be okay. But I would suggest that the venue be Blantyre.

Thanks for this very good initiative which must be supported by all of us in the IT field.

Colleagues,

Did the meeting on 18th take place? I will be in Blantyre on 4th
October and would welcome the opportunity to meet with colleagues in
Blantyre to discuss progress to date and map out a way forward. Kindly
let me know who would be available to meet.

regards,

Towela

I haven't found out if the meeting took place or not. I was very busy on the set date at my work place.

It didnt take place, what we needed is consensus on when and where the meeting should take place. The date of 18th was a suggestion and Blantyre(college of Medicine) was also a suggested venue. Can we have people seconding the venue and suggesting a date please?

I am suggesting of also having an online meeting on the same day of  the physical one such that the venue will not be an issue.

Can we move forward on this please, Any suggestions, comments contributions?

Hello
I am quite sure the meeting did not take place. I had suggested Blantyre and at College of medicine(COM). But there was silence from the list members. I therefore had no muscle to contact COM for any event. I think if we keep talking we will achieve, than when we are silent.

List members, Towela says will be in BT on the 4th. Are there any members of the list that would say we should reschedule for any day around that period or on that day?

David

People,

I second the choice of venue.  I suggest we set the 9th of October as the date for the meeting.

List
I talked to Anthony Muyepa of COM and he had no problems of the venue. But if we want to have food we will have to foot the bill for the food. Otherwise we can meet and break camp without other costs.

What do you all say. 9th October is Ok with me

Pple,

Considering that date proposal will have to align with our
budgets\time to travel between the venue and other cities/town, I
second the idea of promoting e-meeting on the day of the p-meeting
(physical). In that those of us unable to travel will still have the
participation.

Otherwise October 9th sounds good to me.

Edwin

Hello Good people!
I very much support this motion to physically meet and move forward, I
however will not be available on the set date and cannot even e-meet
as I will be travelling.
In anycase, be assured of my support and I will second whatever will be agreed.

Remember to update those of us who will be totally absent...

All the best!

Looks like there is an agreement on the date, time and venue. As a
matter of direction, I propose Blessings to take the lead to brief all
of us as a group what has been done so far and then we would carry
forward with other business. Bearing in mind the that the vision is to
formulate the ISOC Malawi Chapter. The specifications from ISOC will
help us in the objectives of our Chapter here.

I point out Blessings because he started something and I think we can
build from where he stopped.

A brief report:

Currently there are 30 members in the chapter. These can be seen on
the mailing list.

We now need to meet (as already agreed) and I suggest the following
agenda(and we are required to add/comment on the list below):

1. Review the set of by-laws that we had earlier on formulated amend
them if necessary and adopt them.
These can be seen at http://isocmalawi.no-ip.org/isocmalawi/bylaws.pdf

2. Elect a few officers responsible for the coordination of the
chapter activities.

3. Register the Chapter with the registrar generals office.

3. Establish a work plan on the coming chapter's activities. We need
to have a clear set of goals.

4. AOB

As you might have already been made aware that this it is still an
initial stage and will officially be launched after the registration
at the registrar generals office has been done.

As part of the initial preparations we created the following
communication tools:

1. Google group which is also a mailing
list(isocm...@googlegroups.com).
2. A simple website which will provide information on the chapter. It
can be accessed through http://isocmalawi.no-ip.org. (There is NO WWW)

We would like to also create an online meeting tool which will enable
members to meet online and make decisions even when geographically
dispersed.
If there is anyone with such kind of expertise please volunteer to
help.

There is some information which has been mounted on the website which
you may need to see and contribute to it. We may need more information
for the website so feel free to contribute.

Regards,
Blessings.
