Hey guys,

Has anyone seen this: http://nx9.eu/isobus_library/doc/index.html before? Looks like that guy has already implemented a huge portion of the software needed to speak ISOBUS. According to the documentation there is even a Task Controller and VT implementation.

If this stuff does actually exist, one could theoretically use it to completely replace the current monitors in tractors with a $200 android tablet. We should reach out to the author.

Jesse, that's a great find.

I was not aware of it.

There is a well-known, open-source ISOBUS library project here: http://www.isoaglib.com/devzone

There is some good stuff here.  Alex is taking a look at it.

Given the previous inclination toward Python for everything that sits outside the socketCAN module, is there interest in using C++ instead if parts of this library proves useful?

I'm always a fan of using whatever helps you move fastest. If there is a bunch of good C++ code already written, why not use it? I just want to get a working device ready to roll as quickly as we can. Hoping to be collecting yield data this fall harvest :)

That sounds like a worthy goal to me.  We'll put together a plan for fall data collection at this week's meeting.  Alex already has PDU-based packet forwarding working as a socketCAN module as of last week.

To help us plan for successful data collection in the fall, it would be great to put together a user story explaining exactly what data you want to collect and in what manner.  Nexus tablet connected to ISOBlue using pre-4.0 Bluetooth?  Will it be on a particular model of combine?  Any particular PGN's of interest?

Aaron,

The brand of combine won't matter for the messages. If it is a brand specific message then it will be part of the PGN proprietary message block and we won't be able to do anything with it anyway.

All the PDUs are under PGN 51968

There are 24 SPN messages associated with the Process Data Messages: SPNs: 5199, 5200, 5201 and 5202. Most are under SPN 5199.

The messages you want are defined in ISO 11783-10 and -11 and are filtered by data dictionary identifier (DDI).

You can download a snapshot of the DDI here: http://dictionary.isobus.net/isobus/

Did you ever find out if his source code is available?  I'm looking to do something very similar with a Nexus 7.

The code is not available, it is a commercial product.

See below for the reply I got.
