Meeting of ECONOMIC JUSTICE COMMITTEE

...

at the Thomas Merton Center (5129 Penn Avenue)

http://www.thomasmertoncenter.org/projects/economic-justice/

We have accomplished much during our brief existence -- helping to make the campaign of the Giant Eagle Workers a success, sponsoring a public forum to show the film "The Workers Republic" (about the Republic Windows and Doors workers' victorious factory occupation) with additional remarks by UE News editor Al Hart, co-sponsoring and participating in a benefit concert for labor-organized reflief fof Pakistani flood victims, and helping to mobilize between 30 and 40 participants to ride on United Steel Workers buses for the October 2 Mass Rally for Economic Justice in Washington, DC.

Coming up soon will be another public forum -- scheduled for Saturday, October 30, 2:00 p.m., at the Thomas Merton Center. Peter Bohmer, Professor of Political Economy at Evergreen State College (Olympia, WA) will give a presentation, with discussion, on "THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS." (On the following Monday evening, Bohmer will be introducing Thomas Merton Center awardee Noam Chomsky.)

There are more activist projects (around Pittsburgh transit cuts, solidarity with workers at the University of Pittsburgh, the Marcellus Shale campaign, and more) and educational efforts under discussion by our committee -- we hope you will be able to attend this Sunday's important meeting.
