Musical Diaries from the Ghetto with Dr. Nurit Jugend

Music composed by Jews living in Nazi ghettos embodies creation and hope at a time of complete despair. This four-part lecture focuses on various forms of music composed and performed in the ghettos and concentration camps. We will also discuss music composed postwar and in reaction to the Holocaust by leading composers such as John Cage, Dmitri Shostakovich and Steve Reich.

Israeli Movie Club - Double feature honoring Israel's Remembrance Day
Date: Saturday, April 25 | Time: 8:00 | Cubberley Campus, Room H-1

My Prince on a White Horse
This film describes the journey that Michal and Idit took following the trail of their father, Oded, who was killed during the War of Attrition ("Milchemet Ha-Hatasha") when they were very young. It is an intimate journey based on memories; an attempt to revive faded photos through conversations with friends and relatives.

Shining Stars
Taking place nine years after the film "Maytal," which reflected the aftermath of the suicide bombing at Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Center, "Shining stars” portrays Maytal at a point in her life when she decides to commence fertility treatments. The process forces her to cope with intense emotions and face her repressed past.

Spring J-Hoops: Youth Basketball League
Date: Sundays, March 22-June 7 | Time: varies by age | Cubberley Campus, Gym A

One-on-One Basketball staff will conduct clinics on March 22, March 29, and April 5, with teams formed during the last clinic to ensure equal distribution of skill levels. This popular program builds individual skills as well as teamwork values. Games will be played on Sundays.

Tai Chi/Qigong Classes

Date: Tuesdays, April 21-June 16 | Time: 10:30-11:30 am | Cubberley Campus, Gym A

This class will introduce a series of connected spiral movements that exercise the 18 major joints of the body, reduce physical tension and strain, and promote muscle relaxation and flexibility. We will also practice meditation exercises to reduce mental stress, improve concentration and cultivate "qi" (internal energy).

Wondering what the new 45,000 sq. ft. Richard & Rhoda Goldman Sports & Wellness Complex will look like when it opens? Well, wonder no more! We invite you to "step inside" our new 3D, graphical rendering to explore our floor plans and get a feel for this exciting facility at your new Oshman Family JCC on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life!

Take a peek at our pools and group exercise studios on the first floor along with luxury locker rooms with spa features, a playcare area and a Spinning studio. Then climb upstairs to work out in the spacious fitness center with the latest cardio and weight equipment, play sports in the double court gym or strike a yoga pose in our dedicated yoga studio!

Also, if you haven’t checked out the live webcam recently, make sure you do! There have been many exciting construction changes throughout the campus.

Community-Wide Event

Birkat Ha-Hammah - Blessing of the Sun
Date: Wednesday, April 8 | Time: 6:30 am | Baylands – Enter at the East end of San Antonio Road. In case of rain, we will meet at Kol Emeth.

Birkat Ha-Hammah (“blessing of the Sun”) refers to Jewish blessing bestowed upon the sun once every twenty-eight years. it will be performed by Rabbis Booth, Salamo, Cartun and Marder.
Light breakfast will be served at 7:15, courtesy of Izzy’s Bagels.
Bring: If you wish to sit, please bring your own chair or blanket; You will need to supply your own ritual garments; Tzedakah money that will be split between JNF and Friends of the Bay.
