I am happy, honored, and proud to share with you the following news from ILANA SHAY
Last week was a very emotional week:
From Yom Hashoah, Yom Hazikaron, and our loss and grief, to Israel Independence Day.
From the burning pain in our hearts to hope.
There were some comfort moments, from fear of Israel’s existence to survival.
I wanted to share this with you so you can see that we are definitely not alone!
In the era of rising antisemitism and hatred around the world, last Monday a light came from an unexpected direction.
In “Yom Hashoah” ceremony at the Congress of the State of California, in Sacramento, I was honored for my meaningful work to strengthen Holocaust education and promote tolerance, as well as awareness of the atrocities of the Holocaust and its origins.
For many years, I have shared my mother’s survival and winning story during the Holocaust. With a touching presentation, I give inspiring lectures for teenagers and adults at different events. I feel that this is my mission to preserve the memory of my mother, my father, their families, and all the Jewish people.
Our congressman, Patrick Ahrens, organized the ceremony.
The Jewish Caucus held the first part of the ceremony, which was followed by the floor ceremony in the State Assembly and Senate Chambers.
At the floor ceremony, about 10 legislative leaders gave speeches against antisemitism and how important it is to preserve the Holocaust memorial. They were all united with the message: Never Again!
During the ceremony, resolution 46 was accepted without any objection to having April 24th as Yom HaShoah in the State of California.
At the end of that ceremony, each honored Holocaust survivor or descendant was led by a congressman to the front of the floor to receive the certificate of honor.
Shout out to Patrick Ahrens and the rest of the Jewish Caucus for their dedication, support, and amazing leadership.
I am sharing some photos with you, and the link to the resolution:
