Here are important talking points that connect the dots between these terrorist attacks and the frightening groups that are organizing protests in Palo Alto:
* Violence isn't random. It's spreading. The terrorist attack in Colorado is heartbreaking — and it’s a wake-up call. Groups that glorify this kind of violence are organizing right here in Palo Alto. CAIR, AMP, and others backing this past Thursday’s protest at the courthouse have praised Hamas (CAIR SF Bay Area actually posted that Hamas should win the Nobel Prize, and AMP is being investigated for ties to Hamas), and others support “armed resistance.” We need to take this seriously before something similar happens here.
* We just saw Jewish children targeted in a terrorist attack in Colorado. Meanwhile, in Palo Alto, groups like AMP and CAIR, which have both praised Hamas and use violent rhetoric like "globalize the intifada" have sponsored rallies in Palo Alto, including the one at the CA Ave courthouse this week. . This is how hate spreads — first words, then action. Let’s not ignore the warning signs in our own backyard.
* People are rightly horrified by what happened in Colorado. But some of the same groups promoting violent antisemitism there have been organizing rallies in Palo Alto for well over a year - including CAIR and AMP, both with disturbing records. Community safety means standing up to this, not standing by.
