We recently heard that Barry passed from the world. Barry was very unique and devoted to his beliefs especially regarding Neurofeedback. Barry was Grandfather and one of the early foundation stones and will always be remembered for his ground breaking SMR research with cats. Many believed he deserved a Nobel Prize. His slogan “show me the data” became the theme and goal, and battle cry of AAPB as well as ISNR members. “ Show me the data” remains the goal as Neurofeedback evolves within the medical, as well as wellness communities globally.
Barry passionately inspired practitioners worldwide laying the foundation for scientific credibility on behalf of the expanding global community throughout his life. And, possessed a personality most of us who knew him will never forget. Tom and I enjoyed several dinners with Barry over the years. We especially remember the memorable 1 Congreso Internacional de Neuorfeedback en Mexico Oct. 2004 where many leaders in the field came together, to officially support one of the first International countries to formally become members with the US established Neurofeedback community. Barry’s legacy will be remembered. Barry and his famous cats, as well as all our early luminaries opened the door; bringing educating the world with new, yet, proven mental and physical health choices to consider. A door which will never close.
God Speed to you Barry,
Terri and Tom Collura

Subject: Re: [aapbmembers] - Passing of Barry Sterman
Barry was such a big part of the history of biofeedback and our community. His contributions have been important to their growth. I remember, for example, attending the early ISNR precursor meetings on Catalina Island. He was also a dear friend and colleague at UCLA. We spent many hours debating from our different left and right brain perspectives and usually found commonality among our differences. We both felt it very important to have solid research underpinning clinical work. Barry and Lorraine were the first we trusted to babysit our older daughter, and for many years our families had a tradition of spending the day after Thanksgiving together, sharing our leftovers. While he could be very stubborn, he was a very caring and loving person. I will cherish many wonderful memories, at conferences as well as in our personal lives. Stephen Sideroff

Dear AAPB Family,
Lorraine Sterman informed me that Barry died peacefully, at home, on the morning of December 22. She asked if I could inform the AAPB community. I already shared the news with Jay, who has posted on Facebook.
So very glad the special edition of Biofeedback magazine got published while he could still enjoy the accolades.
Happy holidays to all, despite this sad news .... Looking forward to the meeting in spring.
Warm regards,
Lynda Thompson
