Right, Peggy, and some started doing NFB even before there were personal computers. I started in the mid-1970s with an EEG machine. It's amazing that 50 years later, though, we're still around but continuing to struggle for recognition and acceptance. I'm pretty sure we haven't identified why yet. As a strong believer in personal responsibility, I have to ask what are we doing that we shouldn't be or what are we not doing that we should be. I'm still trying to figure that out for myself.

Michael,
Thank you for an interesting article! I think there could be a larger discussion around it. I am encouraged by the interest in Neurofeedback from a diffusion of innovation perspective, as my dissertation was on it.
I have some constructive critiques for the authors if they would like to reach out, as this is not the first research in the area. There are complex issues beyond the viewpoints those who provide neurofeedback for acceptance as it exists in a larger medical and societal structure.
Also, neurofeedback is in early adoption phase, and some of the conclusions of this article (based on the beliefs of Neurofeedback providers) are flawed and were not pushed back on in the article. It is important not to perpetuate them by not pointing out where they are incorrect compared to the larger beliefs of the medical profession as a whole and society.
This is very important research and I applaud the author(s) interest. Thanks for sharing.
Here is a link my dissertation on the topic, it is open access. I also presented it at ISNR.
Ed:
Absolutely not. I know you are supportive of ISNR and its work. I appreciate any suggestions, comments, recommendations etc. to make us a stronger organization and to better benefit our members!
I hope to hear from many more!
Best, Rob

As ISNR moves forward I think it would be beneficial to incorporate a more central social justice lens as a key component in persuading/promoting why it is both effective and should be more widely adopted.
As many of us know, particularly among marginalized populations, there are many systems in place from the cost of education/equipment to the 3rd party payer system (who frequently imposes policies lacking evidence) that prevent marginalized people access to this intervention.
And yet for people and communities who are routinely over diagnosed with mental health labels, over medicated, over represented the criminal justice system, and possessing every reason to distrust the healthcare system, neurofeedback, when used correctly/ethically, can be the bridge to healing through its inherently collaborative and client/patient centered design.
I would love to see ISNR explore more ways of supporting providers who are choosing to find planful and ethical ways to push back on the systems that currently exist in order to provide neurofeedback to these people and communities in the interest of providing the best client centered care. I truly appreciate the work the board already does to understand and navigate these systems. I think the social justice lens may be another asset in further understanding and navigating them.
Thank you to the board for your many hours of service and collaboration.
