Youth of the Month is a recognition program that focuses on acknowledging and making Club members aware of their own leadership abilities. Youth of the Month is a Club-driven experience that fosters leadership within the Club. Unlike many BGCA programs, which are implemented in two or three months of dedicated time, Youth of the Month is most commonly run on an ongoing basis over the course of a year. Youth of the Month is primarily a recognition program, but engaging in various leadership experiences is an important part of the program. Clubs have a great deal of flexibility in how they implement Youth of the Month, so specific activities and experiences may vary, but the focus is always on making Club youth aware of leadership abilities they might not think they possesses and cultivating them so that they learn what it means to be a leader.

With input from your Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors, use these plans to put together your Girl Scout meetings. Participate in a national service project, build their cookie businesses, or try a new water sport.

Comfortable clothing appropriate for your activities is the best. Girl Scout T-shirts, available at girlscoutshop.com, are always a great option to make yourself identifiable to troop members, parents, or adults at your meeting venue. Most Girl Scout councils also have their own T-shirt designs, and some troops opt to make their own.

There is a troop leader vest available as well. Your troop can choose when and where they want to wear their vests to represent themselves as Girl Scouts. Any field trips or more formal events, like a bridging ceremony, are an appropriate time for them.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 3rd December, 2018: Ethiopia launched the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine today. The launch was held at Tesfa Kokeb Primary School in Lideta Sub-city of Addis Ababa and the Ministry of Health plans to vaccinate over one million girls who are 14 years of age. The vaccine will primarily be delivered through a school-based approach to reach all eligible girls in both private and public schools. Out of school girls will be able to access the vaccine at any health facility in all 9 regions and the two city administrations of the country.

A press conference was led by both H.E. Dr Amir Aman, Minister, and H.E. Dr Liya Tadesse, State Minister, Ministry of Health, and Former First Lady Mrs. Roman Tesfaye following the launching ceremony.

Dr Mainuka further urged traditional and religious leaders and all stakeholders, including those outside of the health sector, to continue the support for HPV vaccine introduction nationwide by helping to mobilize parents and caregivers to allow their 14 year old girls to be vaccinated.

Other key speakers during the launch included: Ms Liya Wondwosen, Deputy Director for Maternal and Child Health Directorate of Ministry of Health, Ms Gillian Mellsop, UNICEF Representative and Mr Sefa Werku, Tesfa Kokeb Primary School Director. All stressed that cervical cancer is a main cause of death among women in Ethiopia and encouraged parents not to miss this great opportunity to have their girls immunized.

The country had initially planned to introduce the HPV vaccine through the routine immunization program for roughly 6 million girls of 9-14 years of age. However, due to a global HPV vaccine shortage, the country is introducing the vaccine in a single age cohort (14 years old girls) in the first year of introduction and hopes to expand introduction to additional age cohorts in the second year and beyond based on the global availability of the vaccine. In the event that the vaccine shortage persists, the country will continue vaccinating 14 years old girls every year.

Raise your hand if you've been presented a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation by your teen in an attempt to get something they really want. A phone, a gaming console, a special event with friends. Well, my 14-year-old created a gift guide and presented it to us parents to give us an idea of what she may want as a Christmas gift, a birthday present, or what she'd buy herself when she gets a job. I felt it was a good insight into what she, as a 14-year-old girl, would like and may help others shopping for gifts for a teenager with similar interests.

I figured no better expert to craft a gift guide for a 14-year-old girl than the 14-year-old who lives with me. So, I took some of the items from the gift guide she made for her family and crafted the list below.

I don't expect all 9th-grade girls or 14-year-olds to have the same taste as my daughter. She is a fan of pink, bows, beauty products, music, video games, and comfy, unrestrictive fashion. And this is her wish list, not things I will necessarily purchase her or consider even buying due to the price. But if you are shopping for someone who is a similar age and has a similar aesthetic, I hope this gift guide will steer you in the right direction.

If you're wondering what the hot athletic sneaker is for teenagers in 2023, it's the Nike Dunk. This sneaker is available in a range of color combinations, some that are so coveted they are reselling for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. But if you're not sure the color your teen may like, the classic black and white version is always a good choice. It is also easier to find at a range of retailers. You can find the best selection of Nike Dunks at the Nike website.

I had never heard of the retailer DANDY before, but my daughter linked to multiple hooded sweatshirts from here in her gift guide. The sweatshirts have unique embroidery on the front and back and are designed to be oversized (yet I would still go up a size from what she usually wears in clothing). It's worth looking through all of DANDY's hoodies because there are a lot of quirky and creative ones that may really call to you or be the right vibe for the teen in your life.

Our kid's school as a dress code of a certain color pants or skirt. We saw these pants in Hollister and loved how they were as warm and cozy as sweatpants but had a cut and finish that could be carried off as school pants. We've washed them so many times and they haven't shrunk and still look great. She bought another pair in gray to wear as loungewear/casual fashion. I had no problem getting another pair for her; in fact, I am tempted to get a pair for myself too!

If your teenager is into skincare and social media, there is a good chance they want or already have an ice roller. This is the specific one my 14-year-old requested on her gift guide, so I feel this is an ice roller that is making the rounds on social media. Stored in the freezer, it is used to tighten and soothe the face and reduce under-eye puffiness without additional products and without melting like an ice cube. It comes in a range of pastel colors, and the price is so low you can also consider it a stocking stuffer gift or gift for one night of Hanukkah.

I have found that once my kid was a tween and into makeup and beauty, she was into Glossier. She wears the Glossier hoodie, she has the makeup bag, and uses the skincare as well as some of the cosmetics. Glossier is vegan, cruelty free, and even I like the products for myself. You can't go wrong with the Glossier Makeup Set which is a tubing mascara easy to wash off, brow grooming gel, and a sheer tube of cheek color. The colors are so soft, most any color will work with a range of skintones.

I know you'd think by looking at social media that every teenager in America wants a Stanley mug. But my teen said because they're so popular they've become "mom bottles" and what she wants is this water bottle from lululemon. This insulated water bottle features a leak-proof lid and slip-free texture so it can be stuffed in that chaotic backpack without spilling everywhere. Available in a range of colors, you likely can find one that is your teen's favorite.

Made from 100% natural soy wax, this cute candle inspired by Ariana Grande's song has key notes of orange, mandarin, peach, grapefruit, red currant, and vanilla. With a glitter finish and a ego-pumping message on the front, this would also be a great gift to give a friend or have your teen give as a gift to one of her classmates.

I love it when practical items are on the teen's holiday wish list! Right now it's all about Nike socks, this height, and while white is cool, she's currently into the color black. I always shop from the Nike site directly because I can trust the products are legit and it has the best selection and price.

Now in high school, my teenager has a busier schedule and needs to be more in control of it. We've been discussing tools to help with time management and tasks and she wants a paper planner, feeling she can also use it as a journal and scrapbook of sorts. The Papier site has plenty of stylish yet functional planners in a range of sizes, styles, and colors. Even cooler, you can customize the front of these journals to add a name, personal motto, even change the title on the front and it's included in the price!

I guess I should be honored; I have a larger version of this makeup mirror and my teenager wants the smaller 9-bulb version of the same! It is a great mirror; it angles, it's heavyweight and sturdy, different levels of light brightness and color modes. I've owned mine for several years and it has done me well so I feel confident purchasing the smaller version for my daughter.

I cannot guarantee that your teenager likes the musical artist Mitski, but there is a good chance your teen is into vinyl. If you're looking for a good gift, a suitcase-style record player and vinyl of their favorite artist would be sure to please. We got her a record player a previous Christmas and now she is trying to build up her record collection with a mix of vintage (AKA what her parents listened to her age) and new artists. Mitski and Lorde headlined the All Things Go festival in 2022 and toured in 2023 so if your teen is into that sort of music, they may also like this artist.
