Hello,

We're considering converting our database of Siemens raw data files into ISMRMRD format.  Does the default configuration of the conversion program (siemens_to_ismrmrd) preserve all the meta data in the Siemens headers?  Or would I need to modify the XML/XSL specifications to control what information is copied to the ISMRMD output file?

I'm speaking of the meta information at the top of Siemens raw files that generally precedes the individual scan line data.  Regarding the scan line conversion, my sense is that the ISMRMRD format pretty much captures all the Siemens scan line information, though admittedly I haven't delved into the code.  It's the meta data that precedes the scan lines that I suspect may not completely be converted.

Understandably, the information space of the Siemens format may not map completely to the ISMRMRD format.  I'd like to determine whether I'm going to need tailor the conversion for our various research groups in order to make sure the meta data they are interested in is perserved.

Thanks,
John.

The converter does not in general map the entire Siemens protocol to ISMRMRD headers....not by a long shot. There are many more parameters in the siemens header than in the ISMRMRD header. However, the converter has a -B parameter that you can use to append the entire Siemens protocol buffer to a user field (it will be base64 encoded) and then you can parse it later if needed.

Hope this helps,
Michael

That's helpful, thanks.  Embedding the original header in a user field to be accessed later works for me.

John.
