Betty,

With the wonderful help of Shirley, (Thanks Shirley!!!) I recently found that my 3rd great grandfather, Joao d' Amaral, DOB abt 1828 @ Furnas, had a first wife named Rosa Jacintha de Souza, DOB 21 Jun 1823 @ Furnas, Death 19 Jan 1864 @ Furnas. They had one child, Maria d' Amaral, DOB 29 Apr 1858 @ Furnas. Rosa passed away before the family moved to Hawaii.

Joao married a second wife, Ana de Jesus Sebastain, DOB 1842 @ Furnas, Died 28 Jul 1914 @ Oakland, CA. Joao and Ana had at least 7 children, and I have a lot of information on the children from the second wife. My 2nd great grandfather was their oldest son, Manuel, DOB 10 Sep 1870 @ Porto Formoso?, and died 12 Jul 1937 @ Oakland, CA.

I do not have any information on the child from the first wife, Maria, except that she landed in Hawaii with her father, step mother and half siblings on the Abergeldie, 10 May 1883.

What more information can you tell me about Maria (ie Death, parents, husband, children, etc.)? If you think my Maria and your Maria might be the same person, I would love to talk with you, on list or off list. My email is mflan...@comcast.net

My wife's father was Antone Rego of Waialua, Oahu. Her mother was Elsie Pacheco of Waimea, Kauai.
