It's like an Islandora Camp, only more.
The Islandora community has been working since 2006, via email, listservs, irc, and nearly a dozen Islandora Camps. We have grown, matured, tackled major changes in the structure of the project, and now we are ready to come together for a full conference to talk about where we've been and where we're going.
August 3 - 7, 2015, we invite Islandorians from the world over to join us in the birthplace of Islandora (Charlottetown, PEI) for a week of great food, (hopefully) beautiful weather, and all the Islandora you can handle. This full week event will contain sessions from the Islandora Foundation, Interest groups, community presentations, two full days of hands-on Islandora training, and will end with an islandora Hackfest where we invite you to make your mark in the Islandora code and work together with your fellow Islandorians to complete a project selected by the community.
Full details will be available as they develop on our Conference Website[1], including registration, calls for proposals, scheduling, and recommendations for accommodations and travel. We look forward to seeing you in PEI next year!

Now that the announcement is out there, I'd like to get some opinions from the community on the kinds of things you'd like to see happen during the conference, especially since this is the inaugural Islandora Conference and we're feeling out how it should work.

For instance, is a poster session a good fit for our community? We'd love to do the wine & cheese and posters mixer thing, but it could get crowded if only one of two people have posters to show. We also want to do some sort of Lightning Talk style quick presentations, but we'd love suggestions about what form these should take.

Also, what kinds of info would you like on the website? I've already had one request for info about childcare during the conference, which I'll add to the site once I get a little more gathered. Is there more we can do to help out in exploring Charlottetown and PEI? It's an awesome place to be in the summer, so if you're coming to the conference, you might as well make the most of it.

Thanks,

Melissa

I know I'd really appreciate a chance to drive/bike somewhere one evening with others.  I got a chance last year to explore only for one evening.   Maybe some tour guides could be arranged or group trips somewhere outside of Charlottetown?

Also more conference related, what about holding interest group meetings on the Friday alongside hackfest?  They could be in the morning (and done by afternoon, maybe) giving some time for exploration Friday or early flights back.  This would be a good chance for all the interest group members to meet and maybe also get some business done/come up with agendas for the year, or next six months.

I agree with Alex, the Con is a great opportunity for interest groups to meet face to face.

I'm hosting a webinar today with Melissa Anez to announce the speaker / workshop schedule for the conference. We'll also be talking about building a business case for attending (i.e. professional development and training for project sustainability). If you're on the fence about coming or need some information to apply for funds, join us.
