Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder of the upcoming AI Discussion Series meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2025 @ 11am Eastern. In advance of this month’s discussion, on behalf of the coordinators of this meeting, we wanted to share some information about the future of this gathering.

With the AI discussion series continuing to bring together new and returning participants, we recognize the need to establish a more structured approach for future meetings to ensure that they provide maximum value for all attendees. The series was initially launched as an open forum for academic libraries, technologists, and open-source communities to discuss the increasing impact of AI bot harvesting on institutional repositories, digital collections, and related infrastructure. As this harvesting activity continues to persist and evolve, on-going collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and collective problem-solving remain a topic of interest to all involved participants.

We want to ensure time invested in community discussion is time well spent. The coordinators propose defining a framework for future meetings that involves active participation from individuals who are interested in setting, and working on action-oriented, concrete goals that not only facilitate information exchange but also produce tangible results that are useful to the community-at-large.

During the upcoming meeting we will discuss our proposed plan in further detail and seek input. At this time, we also suggest placing a temporary hold on future monthly meetings until a path forward is established.

We thank each and everyone for your participation in this discussion. We encourage you to continue to follow the documented discussion as it evolves at https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/cmtygp/Aggressive+AI+Harvesting+of+Digital+Resources.

Thanks in advance and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Cheers,

Arran, on behalf of the session coordinators.
