Hello everyone,

We are writing to share the news that Danny Lamb has accepted a position as Senior Developer with Born-Digital. Danny’s last day with the Islandora Foundation will be after the upcoming release of Islandora, likely in late July.

Since becoming Islandora’s Technical Lead in mid 2016, Danny has guided the transition to a new architecture for the next generation of the platform, and has led and coordinated community contributions to make Islandora 8 a reality with skill and energy. Even though his role is changing, Danny isn’t leaving the community, and we look forward to collaborating with him in his new role at Born-Digital.

Please join us in congratulating Danny in his new role, and in thanking him for the significant contributions he has made to the Islandora community and platform.

This is a period of change for the community. We are proud that the community has expanded to the point where it advances the Islandora Foundation staff’s careers, and know that we must plan for turnover, both now and in the future. The departure of both of the Islandora Foundation’s long-standing full-time staff members allows us to re-envision the organization’s strategic direction and staffing model.  The Islandora Foundation Leadership Group is seeking to lead with a community-first approach and create a community of intentional inclusion that specifically lifts up a more diverse set of voices that better represents our global usership. Our vibrant community is our greatest resource. We want to empower our users so that we may all become stronger together.

We know that this is a critical time for many institutions in their migration processes and we, the Islandora Leadership Group, seek to use this opportunity to create a new staffing infrastructure that is more solidly focused on hearing and meeting the needs of our community. This will take a little time and we  thank you in advance for your patience. Your feedback is critical: please share your candid feedback via this feedback form. We will review this feedback in our July Leadership meeting.  In the meantime, we are committed to ensuring the continuity of activity in the community, including regular meetings and events.

Congratulations Danny! I know all too well how bittersweet it can be to step away from the Islandora Foundation and find a new way to work with this awesome community, but I’m sure you’ll tackle this new challenge with the same skill and grace you brought to the IF these past several years. The folks at Born-Digital could not have a better co-worker 😊

Cheers,
