Fedora Governance Elections
|
|
|
This month marked the start of the Fedora Governance elections process, beginning with an open nomination period for available seats. Serving on Governance is an opportunity
to engage more deeply with the Fedora community in a leadership role. Governance Group members act as strategic liaisons between the community and our broader stakeholders, helping shape principles and goals for the program. They set strategic direction, and
engage in critical sustainability planning. It's a chance to directly influence the future of an open-source project used by institutions around the world, and to help ensure we continue to reflect the needs of our global community.
No deep technical knowledge or prior governance experience required. All voices are welcome, and we especially encourage nominations from those with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Commitment: 6 meetings/year

Fedora & LAST
Over the last year, Fedora Program team members, along with partners from within the community have been participating in the Long-term Access, Storage & Technology (LAST) Working
Group.
The LAST WG is focused on developing a layered architectural framework for all aspects of long-term digital preservation. The discussions are focused on what it takes for digital
content to remain recoverable and meaningful across century- and millennium-scale timeframes. Alongside partners from across the storage and digital preservation ecosystems, we are contributing a repository practitioner's perspective to ensure the resulting
framework reflects the real needs of those responsible for digital collections.

Hyrax Fedora 6 Working Group
As you may or may not be aware, the Fedora Program team has been participating in the Hyrax Fedora 6 Working Group as part of a cross-community effort to support users migrating
to current versions of Hyrax and Fedora.
We are reaching the final stages of completing the deliverables defined by the WG. One of the final items is Phase 2 of the Performance Testing work we have been engaged in.
Phase 2 performance testing involves looking at collections with 5000+ works in the f6.nurax environment. We have opened testing up to both communities and are seeking feedback on a select set of use cases.

This year, Fedora Program Manager, Arran Griffith, will be heading to
Educause in
Denver, CO from September 29 - October 2, 2026. She is joining Lauren Collister, from Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI), for a poster session titled
Bots
Behaving Badly: Implications of Bot Traffic on Research and Knowledge in the AI Economy.
Participation at Educause is being generously supported by the Mellon Foundation funded project -
BRIDGE:
Exploring cross-sector partnerships in the AI-era.
This poster session brings forward the work of the AI Discussions Working Group, partnering with IOI to help increase awareness of the issues cultural heritage institutions are
facing, and the critical infrastructure impacts due to AI-powered bot scraping.
