Fedora Annual Report

Earlier this fall we released the Fedora Annual Report for fiscal year 2024-2025. The Fedora fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. This report highlights the successes and achievements of the Fedora Program during that period.

We have a lot to celebrate.

Welcome to the Incoming Fedora Governance Chair and Chair-Elect

On behalf of Fedora Governance, we are pleased to officially welcome the incoming Chair and Chair-Elect of Fedora Governance,Scott Prater, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Alexander Berg-Weiß, University Library of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

The Fedora Governance Group is made up of elected representatives from our member institutions and the broader community, who work together to guide Fedora’s priorities and strategic direction. The Chair and Chair-Elect play key leadership roles, helping connect the Fedora program, Lyrasis, and the wider governance team.

Scott is moving into his role as Chair after serving one year as Chair-Elect alongside Kate Dohe (University of Maryland Library). Alexander is new to this leadership role and is the first representative from outside of North America to hold a Chair or Chair-Elect position.

Fedora in the Community

Conferences

Digital Libraries: Tools for(ever) Digital Preservation Conference

In early October, the Fedora Program Team had the opportunity to participate in an online conference hosted by the IFLA Preservation and Conservation Center at the National Library of Poland. The conference, Digital Libraries: Tools for(ever) Digital Preservation Conference brought together open source software repository solutions to discuss and share how their platforms are supporting preservation around the world.

Samvera Connect 2025

Making a pivot from in-person to virtual, Samvera Connect took place in late October, and we were fortunate to be able to participate in the exciting annual community event. The Fedora Program Manager was on-hand to give a community update as well as share information on the progress of the Hyrax Fedora 6 Working Group deliverables.

All conference content and recordings can be found on the Samvera Wiki.

PHAIDRACon

Program Developer, Dan Field, hit the road at the end of the month on his way to Padua, Italy to give a Fedora community update and participate in PHAIDRACon. This one-day, in-person conference brought PHAIDRA users together to provide updates, and share their work at the beautiful Botanical Gardens of Padua. The event was hosted by PHAIDRA and the University of Padua.

Fedora Celebrates World Preservation Day

On November 6, the Fedora community celebrated World Preservation Day 2025 along with preservation practitioners around the world, by sharing the following blog post. In this post, we encouraged users to reflect on the theme of “Why Preserve” and pause to think about the priceless digital content being preserved by Fedora implementations around the world.

We invited readers to participate in an interactive activity, helping us create a “Word Cloud” centered around this year’s theme that we will showcase at Virtual Fedora Showcase later in November.

Join us today and pledge your commitment to Preservation

In conjunction with World Preservation Day 2025, we also launched a new initiative to further support the sustainability of Fedora. We now invite you to make a one-time donation directly to the Fedora program. These donations will help us sustain current program work, secure on-going development, and ensure that users around the world can continue protect their digital collections with Fedora.

While one-time donations do not replace participation in the Fedora Membership Program they can act as a supplementary source of revenue for the program, allowing us to engage more users and advance development efforts faster and more effectively. So please consider how you can help.

Fedora is a community that cares. Cares about people, technology, and the future of digital preservation. Thank you for celebrating World Digital Preservation Day 2025 with us, and being part of our shared commitment to protecting the world’s digital knowledge.
