Hi everyone,

I hope you have had a nice week so far. I am writing today to share some very exciting news for the Fedora community. After nearly 3 years, today marks the completion of the IMLS Grant-funded Fedora Migration Paths & Tools: A Pilot Project. We are extremely thankful for the generous commitment of the teams from both Pilot Partner institutions involved, as well as all of the other individuals from institutions who collaborated on work, reviewed, tested and supported this process.

Today we are pleased to be able to share with you the final grant deliverable – The Migration Toolkit. Hosted and maintained on the Fedora Wiki, this toolkit provides a comprehensive set of instructions for migrating Fedora 3 instances to Fedora 6.x for both Islandora and custom front-end users. Complete with templates, screenshots, best practices and suggested tools for navigating the work, this toolkit is the culmination of a large-scale collaboration between all of the grant partners and represents an open path toward Fedora 6.x. This toolkit will provide options for those using outdated versions of Fedora to a more modern, well supported version which in turn ensures the long-term stability and security of previously at-risk repositories around the world who were relying on Fedora 3 to preserve and protect their digital objects.

Access to the Migration Toolkit can be found at this link: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/FF/Fedora+Migration+Paths+and+Tools

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences LG-246264-OLS-20.

Please enjoy and should you have any questions about the grant or the content of this toolkit, do not hesitate to reach out to me at arran.g...@lyrasis.org. Also let us know if you have or are planning to use this document for a migration as we would appreciate any feedback you may have when going through the toolkit. This will help us ensure all the information is as accurate as possible for the entire community.

Thanks again for all the hard work.

Cheers,

Arran
