Dear Randy, Anne, Beth, and Suzanne,

The Islands Energy Coalition would like to encourage OPALCO to join
other coops around the US in adopting virtual net metering. We've
prepared some graphics (see attached) that we'd like to put on a
sandwich board for an Islands Energy Coalition display at the annual
meeting for display at one of the ferry tables. It could be an example
of the member participation which OPALCO encourages.

I know you're all super busy with the upcoming annual meeting, but just
wanted to run this by you to see if you have any objections. If you have
a moment to look over the slides, we would appreciate feedback.

Here's a good Home Power magazine article on community solar that
provides further information:

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,
First of all, I want to thank you for asking before you did this. As Opalco is a private corporation, an annual meeting is a legal requirement, which is to report to its membership the state of the corporation, and to elect directors. With the meeting being held on the ferry, we have a very limited time frame to accomplish this task. We also want to highlight our existing programs.

For Opalco to start a virtual net metering program it would require a new policy. So if you want this concept to become a policy, you would first want to start by requesting an audience before the board. A presentation giving the board the basics on virtual net metering. Then if the board felt this was something the membership may benefit from, they ask staff to investigate.

So, with the above, I would respectfully ask you to not bring signage promoting virtual net metering. And if you want to present this concept to the board, I would ask you to call or email Bev Madan @ 376-3549 or bma...@opalco.com to set a date for this. I believe the board will be back on Lopez in August.
If you have any questions, I will be back on the office.

Dear Randy,

Thank you for the response. We won't set up the signage.

I look forward to perhaps giving a short presentation on Virtual Net
Metering to the board when it meets again on Lopez in August.

Best,
Chris

Chris,

Thank you for taking on virtual net metering with OPALCO and focusing on strengthening the relationship.  My business is planning to set up at the farmer markets on Lopez, Orcas and SJ this summer to reach out to the community.  After a planning phase with OPALCO, we could tweak the wording on your PP a little and stimulate the discussion with the public.

Cheers,

Doug
