Hi Sandy, Chom, Winnie, IEC team

Here's some draft slides I've put together for the IEC board at the
OPALCO annual meeting on Saturday.

When they're finalized, the idea is to print them out and attach them to
a sandwich board that Rhea has.

Please feel free to modify or give me suggestions. Can you think of an
'action item' to add? Like "encourage OPALCO to adopt virtual net metering".

Winnie -- have you talked with OPALCO staff lately to find out what is
holding OPALCO back from implementing virtual net metering? I'm thinking
it may not take pressure from IEC -- it may be simply a metering issue
that's in the process of being worked out with OPALCO's billing company?

I would like to run these slides by Anne Bertino to get her comments and
suggestions on how IEC can most usefully work with OPALCO to promote
virtual net metering.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

This looks great. Thanks for the initiative. If we ever talk with the board directly on this issue I still think it would be good to pitch the idea that they make the first installations. It would pave the way for others. OPALCO, more than anyone else holds all the necessary pieces of the puzzle: capital, regulatory muscle, initiative and mission, administration, marketing power, and real estate resources.

Thanks,
Bruce

I like Bruce's idea...real clean and simple.  Action: OPALCO  to install the first 20KW community system for virtual net metering on Lopez Island (at the site near Sunset Builders or perhaps on the roof of Sunset)?  That way they can test the system.  We can agree to get 10-20 people lined up to buy in at 1-2 KW's each.  It could be a joint effort between IEC and OPALCO.

Thanks for your work on this Chris.  The meeting is this Saturday so we'll need to get this moving through the OPALCO channels.  Sandy

Hi Winnie,

Here's an email I was thinking of sending to OPALCO. Any thoughts? I'm
thinking it'll be good for them to have a heads-up on this.

Dear Randy, Anne, Beth, and Suzanne,

The Islands Energy Coalition would like to encourage OPALCO to adopt
virtual net metering. We've prepared some graphics (see attached) that
we'd like to put on a sandwich board for display at the annual meeting
for display at one of the ferry tables.

I know you're all super busy with the upcoming annual meeting, but just
wanted to run this by you to see if you have any objections. If you have
a moment to look over the slides, we would appreciate feedback.

Here's a good Home Power magazine article on community solar that
provides further information:
