Not all are happy, and perhaps most are not. Here's one paragraph from
a letter mailed to Gordon Campbell shortly after his election victory.
I think it contains some substantive points:

"9. Photo radar. Yeah, you're doing to dump it, I know! Why? The
"egregious intrusion of government into the life of every private
citizen," or some such blarney? A couple of points here. Surveys have
shown that a majority of us SUPPORTS photo radar. Are YOU going to
pander to special interests, of which the much-hated NDP has so often
been accused? Accident rates and deaths are down since photo radar was
introduced. Cause-and-effect, or a bizarre coincidence? There is study
after study in the USA showing a remarkable reduction in accident and
death rates on US highways after the introduction of the 55mph speed
limit in the 70s, a result of the OPEC oil embargo. Another bizarre
coincidence? One reason we use photo radar is that there are already
not enough police out there to keep the streets and highways safe, and
photo radar admittedly makes a poor second alternative. However, here
you are proposing to cut taxes, which will further reduce our ability
to hire cops, and yet you want to eliminate the alternative, as well?
Message from Mars: you can't have it both ways! Give me a break,
Gordo! No, we urge you to INCREASE the number of photo radars in use,
and to cease the silliness of allowing their locations to be advertised
on radio and television. If the system isn't working right, improve it,
don't kill it. Think a bit creatively! Don't just do the easy thing to
score a few political points from a loutish loud vocal minority which
wishes to drive at whatever speed it pleases."

Well, this guy is happy. I believe in a person being charged, at least for
traffic offences, when he commits the alleged crime, not weeks afterwards.
It is an utterly unfair system.
Further, the way the idiot officers who set up the vans arranged them
revealed the speed-trap small-town nature of these odious things.
Good riddance I say.
Murray
I thought that surveys showed that most of us didn't want photo radar.

Come to think of it, aren't we beating a dead horse? It's GONE!
Can you imagine any party in the future in BC running on a platform to
instate photo radar? I can't.

<rant> Accidents are caused by people driving against the flow of the
traffic... if everyone on the highway is travelling at 100km/h, a single
driver who insists on driving 80 km/h (in the fast lane nonetheless!) is far
more a danger to fellow commuters. Also... people who drive with
impatience, tailgating, unsignalling lane changes, dangerous erratic
manouevers... those are the dangerous drivers, not li'l old me who thinks
that on a clear day with a clear road, 100 km/h is a much more reasonable
highway speed to cruise than 80 km/h. </rant>
