Dear Anam,

I thought this may be applicable for some of the more senior members of your community. We are looking for 2-3 people to represent your community at this consultation forum. Please submit the names to me and I will pass them on to our Aging Well team.

City of Ballarat is partnering with the Commissioner for Senior Victorians to hold a community consultation forum with 70 older people on Friday the 14th October , 1.00 to 4.00pm at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility.

We are seeking the support of neighbouring councils and local organisations serving older people to recruit local participants for the session and support them to attend.

About the Ageing Well consultation forum

The session is part of a state-wide consultation the Commissioner is running this year to hear from older people about the issues that matter most to them including enhancing respect and addressing ageism, digital inclusion, social connectedness and health including self-care.

All of the in-person consultation sessions will be three hours long including a substantial mid-way break for morning or afternoon tea. The session will be hosted by the Commissioner and run in the World Café style with small group discussions.

How you can help

This session is an important forum for older people from our community to have their say. We are seeking your assistance to:

1.  Nominate older people (aged 60+, and 50+ for Aboriginal Victorians) to participate. When recruiting your nominees, we ask that you consider diversity in life experience, cultural and faith background, age, ability and community role. We are also very interested in hearing from older people who are not digitally connected or confident with being online. Participants are welcome to bring a carer or support worker if needed.

2. Nominate a staff member or volunteer from your council/organisation to take notes during the session

The findings of the consultations will be published by the Commissioner in March 2023 and will inform his ongoing advocacy on behalf of older Victorians to the Victorian Government and government departments. All participating organisations will be recognised in the Commissioner’s report and will be invited to a briefing on the findings.

Please find attached an invitation from the Commissioner to send to potential participants and return by Friday 30th September 2022. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards

John
