to Islamic Economics
Assalamo Alaikum everyone.
I created this group a while ago, and it has not been active. But now I have started writing my new planned textbook on third generation economics. I have created a mailing list for this textbook - signup can be done at http://bit.ly/AZIEML  - I just sent out my first email to the mailing list, it is copied below. The mailing list is a one-way communication, while a googlegroup like this allows members to interact - to discuss, question, comment etc. So, I am planning to activate this group, to invite discussion on the planned textbook. I am copying my first email to the mailing list below:

Welcome to the Islamic Economics Mailing List! Together, we embark on an ambitious journey to rebuild the discipline of economics on the moral foundations of Islam, offering an alternative to the amoral approaches of modern economics.

This project has been years in the making. After over two decades of exploration, I’ve developed a coherent framework for an Islamic approach to economics. The foundations of this framework are discussed in the first chapter of the forthcoming textbook on Third Generation Islamic Economics. You can download it here: Chapter  1: The Methodology of Uloom ul Umran

This is more than just a textbook—it’s a movement. We aim to address a fundamental question: How did the divine message of Islam become sidelined, even in Islamic societies? Historical forces in the West, such as centuries of religious wars and the rise of secular philosophies like logical positivism, have shaped a worldview that ignores spirituality and inner dimensions of humanity. This has led to flawed models of human behavior, like homo economicus, which fail to reflect real human nature.

By starting with sound theories of human behavior rooted in Islamic principles, we can transform not only economics but all social sciences. Through this mailing list, we’ll share ideas, explore practical strategies for change, and develop Islamic approaches to activism.

Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey to reshape knowledge and society. For a more extensive discussion of how you can participate, read my post on Rebuilding Economics on Islamic Moral Foundations.  I look forward to your contributions!

Warm regards
Asad Zaman
