Akshaya Tritiya, an auspicious day celebrated on the third lunar day of the bright fortnight of the month of Vaishakha (April–May), holds a very special place in Vedic tradition. The word Akshaya means “that which never diminishes,” and Tritiya refers to the “third day.” According to Vedic scriptures and traditions echoed in Srila Prabhupada’s teachings, Akshaya Tritiya is a day when spiritual activities bear eternal, unlimited results.
Recommended Activities on Akshaya Tritiya Devotees and spiritual practitioners are encouraged to engage in the following on Akshaya Tritiya:
• Chanting the holy names of the Lord, especially the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
• Hearing and reading scriptures such as Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.
• Giving charity, especially to genuine spiritual causes or brahmanas.
• Beginning new spiritual projects or sankirtana (preaching) endeavors.
• Offering special pujas to Krishna, Vishnu, or Lakshmi.
It is also an ideal time for sponsoring Bhagavad-gita or Srimad Bhagavatam distribution, temple construction, or any service that spreads Krishna consciousness, as the results are magnified manifolds.
