Event Description:
Meditation doesn't come easy for many people. That's where kirtan - an
ancient participatory music experience offers another method. One of
the oldest sacred music traditions of the world, the kirtan
call-and-response chanting genre comes from India. Using ancient
Sanskrit mantras to the accompaniment of instruments such as the
harmonium, drum and karatal cymbals, without the work of mentally
quieting the mind, kirtan calls upon sacred energies which
effortlessly lift us into clear, joyous state, invoke peacefulness and
bring us back to the center of our being. Kirtan is the yoga of sound.
All kinds of diseases can be cured by its stimulating vibrations.
Kirtan is so effective and penetrating that words cannot express its
significance. It must be experienced to be understood.
The workshop will be conducted by Sakhya Prema das, an expert kirtan
teacher for more than 30 years.
