With The Sims recently celebrating its 21st anniversary at the time of originally writing this tutorial, I have been in a nostalgic mood and re-discovering older Sims titles. And that has included going back to where it all started!

This guide should help you overcome common problems when installing the game and help you get The Sims 1 working as well as possible on newer computers running Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 and even Windows 7.

This step is completely optional and we are not responsible for monitoring content on third-party websites or downloads. We will not be held responsible for corrupted or inoperable gameplay caused by the installation, use, or modification.

In the unlikely event you encounter any problems, you can delete the new Sims.exe file from your Sims installation directory, and rename Sims.old file back to Sims.exe if needed.

Congratulations! You should now be able to launch and play The Sims 1 on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7 machines. All you have to do now is click on the shortcut on your desktop to get started!

You only need to follow this step if you are experiencing problems with The Sims game launcher, which traditionally opens automatically every time you insert a disc to help you get the game installed or launch it.

On some newer devices, this can cause a problem where nothing happens or you get an error message from windows saying something needs to close. If you are unable to get the launcher working, try the following steps.

this was happening for me when i first downloaded the game. it seems like anything i tried in this post just prevented the launch screen from showing up too. no errors. no nothing just silence whenever i try to start the game.

Recieving Fatal Error: could not find sims data directory message no matter what I try. I have gotten this exact file of the game to work before on windows 10. not sure what to do as the answers online are from 2003.

I am having major issues just installing the game. I have the original CD and when I try to run the setup.exe in compatibility mode on windows 11 it just does not open anything. I tried all of your instructions to no avail. Can you please help?

Leyburn Library seeks students interested in institutional history research opportunities for the summer of 2024. Working collaboratively, the Library and W&L students have begun building research portals and digital exhibits on major themes in the history of W&L. This work involves digging into archival material in Special Collections, processing it to make it available digitally, and interpreting the material for a public audience. This summer we will be focusing on the topics of Athletics, Environment Grounds & Buildings, Military life & Veterans (post-WWII), Latino, Latinas history & presence, Native American history & presence, and/or Scotch-Irish Founders. Students will gain experience in library and archival research skills, specifically digitization, metadata, digital exhibit creation, oral histories, digital scholarship, and public history. Students interested in careers in libraries/information science, cultural heritage, public history, museums, education, or creative fields are encouraged to apply.

Students will be expected to serve as mentors for AIM program. Due to the hands-on nature of working with archival material, students should plan to be in Lexington for the duration of their summer research time.

While it is not required, it is strongly encouraged that the SRS student(s) helping with this project have experience with or an appreciation of the performing arts. This project requires a base knowledge of concepts within this realm and the ability to complete research to better understand the materials they will be describing. It is important to consider not only the items themselves, but also how researchers may use the collection in the future and what information would be most helpful to those researchers.

The goal of this project is to use Geographic Information System software (ArcGIS) to create an online interactive map of the back campus, which will include 360 degree photos that showcase the different areas of the back campus. This project involves education and utilization of advanced GIS software mechanics, including applying LIDAR scans of the back campus. The map will display all trails, the gazebo, and the disc golf course. The map would provide better exposure for the various opportunities the back offers.

An interest in exploring librarianship as a career (though not necessarily for oneself). Experience with literature-based and social science research is helpful. Some familiarity with library work, either from work or volunteering is helpful.

Start and end dates are flexible. While the scholars should be on campus, much of the research and reflective work can happen independently. Informational interviews and structured reading discussions may happen in person or virtually depending on the people involved. There may be some field trips to regional libraries.

This summer research project explores strategies for introducing non-technical audiences to the complexities of developing web applications powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The project seeks to identify methods for demystifying the process of integrating AI technologies into web development for individuals lacking a programming background. Through a detailed examination of various educational methodologies, the project will focus on curriculum design, best practices, and learning tools for conveying complex technical concepts in an accessible manner. The ultimate goal is to create a framework for empowering non-tech professionals with the knowledge and skills to participate in the creation and management of AI-driven products and services.

Regulated Health Care Providers who are experienced Nova Scotia Health employees typically have a range of learning needs related to COVID-19 testing, depending on current practice and competence. Prior to performing COVID-19 Testing (e.g. in COVID-19 Testing Centres), an experienced care provider must complete a self-assessment of learning needs. This requires a review of the self-directed learning checklist with the following questions:

As per standards of practice, regulated health care providers are responsible and accountable to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and competence to practice safely. An experienced care provider must ensure that they:

Experienced regulated health care providers do require on-boarding support, with consideration of all individualized learning needs related to variations in designation and current scope (e.g. RN, Physiotherapist), practice experience (e.g. critical care, ambulatory clinic) and currency of practice (e.g. returning from maternity leave).

Both of these groups are newly hired to Nova Scotia Health, the graduate being new in a care provider role, while those new to NS Health may or may not have practice experience. All would need to complete all components of the Self-Directed Learning Plan, including a review of all care directives, policies and procedures as these may vary from previous education and practice.

It is recommended that the new to Nova Scotia Health care providers do have time with IPP & L, IPAC or Clinical Leadership to review all the content as listed below, with adequate time for a demonstration, practice and questions (e.g., 2-3 hours).

An experienced nurse who is new to NS Health may be competent in skills such as donning/doffing PPE and swab collection but is still required to demonstrate this safely and effectively prior to independent practice. A newly graduated care provider is likely to require additional time with a preceptor, perhaps 7.5 to 15 or more hours, in order to attain competence and confidence in their role with COVID-19 testing.

It is also important to note that these new hires also have mandatory education requirements related to their role in the organization, as well as site-specific learning that is required to perform their role (e.g., documentation, SIMs reporting etc.). This must be taken into consideration in their transition to practice plans. The following details the required education for COVID-19 Testing.
