National duty first: Dilshan

Percy Holdenbottle

Sri Lankan captain T.M. Dilshan said national duty is more important
than playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Sri Lankan
players are committed to return by May 5.  "I miss Avurudhu this time
because IPL and I very upset as I expect to get lot of things doing
'ganu-denu' and I'm wanting to UK now so I play my country and I don't
know why Sanga, Mahela and Malinga not thinking like I thinking" he
said.  He also stated that the fact that he was hopelessly out of
touch in the IPL, had nothing to do with his decision. " I  just
getting used to weight of my new gold chains I bought Zaveri Bazaar
and Pondi Bazaar" he said.  "In beginning it made my head swell up,
but after Doctor Eilian White gave m e white powder, I dont feel
anything anymore" he said.  He also said he was looking forward to
visiting England as his wife had told him to wait there till July when
the Summer Sales start.  "DIL Step my shop and right now people only
coming there to see my picture on wall and I hope I get some good
England clothes" he said.

Asked about what it felt like to be the first Malay Muslim to captain
Sri Lanka he said "No! No! Although I born Muslim, I change name so I
be like Hashan, then I marry first wife Buddhist and second wife Hindu
ceremony, so now I like Kandy Perehera, starting from Temple going
Kovil and ending Temple".  When questioned about his ability to fit
into Sangakkara's shoes he said " No problem, my shoe size same size
as Sanga's ".  He also said that he would be considering opening the
bowling in test cricket as Arjuna Ranatunge had called him a nd asked
him to always lead from the front.  Dilshan has been arguably one of
Sri Lanka's most aggressive batsmen and his fielding has been
exemplary. As of late he seems to have been weighed down by the heavy
load he carries around his neck which has also caused him problems at
airport security.

Asked to comment on the news report that Sri Lanka Cricket had
requested Malinga to return to rehabilitate his injured knees, Dilshan
said he was not aware of any problems regarding Malinga's knees.  " I
know his cousin had appendicitis but his niece was always ok and she
quite nice looking and fair" he added wryly.

"I already getting good support from all boys and just yesterday Upul
Tharanga told me bugger off when I ask him to go Mojo" he said.  The
interview with this reporter was rudely cut short when Dilshan
received a call from a person called Aravinda inquiring about the sale
of Dilshan's vehicle permit.
