The South African Government is in the process of transforming the
country through a host of reforms and one of many the major problems
that they are facing is the use of land and mangaing that in an
equitable fashion that is not harmfull to the environment or the
people living on the land.

The Municipal IDP process will include the LUMS, as a seperate body on
the public Represntitives Forums, and other forums where the IDP's
will be debating the way forward for our local municipalities.

iSimangaliso Birding route will eventualy encompass 6 Local
Municipalities, one DMA (Ditrict management area) and 2 District
Muncipalities

iSimangaliso Birding route will thus need to have representation on
each of these IDP's and in the case of the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park
Authority thier IMP as listed below

1) Umkhanyakude District Muncipality
2) Umhlatuze District Municpality
3) Mbonambi Local Muncipality
4) Mtubatuba Local Muncipality
5) Jozini Local Muncipality
6) Hlabisa Local Muncipality
7) Big 5 False Bay Local Muncipality
8) Umhalbuyalingana Local Muncipality
9) DMA 27 (iSimangaliso Wetalnds Park Authority) IWPA

iSimangaliso Birding Route will thus need to take a policy decision on
Land Use Managment issues, and ensure that our members properties are
zoned correctly for them to be able to do business, and place birding
friendly structures on their properties, and in some instances place
weir's along the water courses on their properties to catch and store
rain water so as to attract water birds and have drinking water for
their live stock, which of course includes the local birds and other
creatures.

It must be remebered that these places are / will be listed as eco
tourism opperations, and thus the land use mangaement system must have
these sites listed as such and ensure that there is adiquate
protection of for the land owner from change of zoning of his / her
property.

This item of Land Use management will be discussed at a meetring of
iSimangaliso Birding Routes board of trustees on Saturday 01 December
2007
