Hi all..  is there anyone using Cohesity to backup their Isilon systems?
I'm particularly interested if anyone is doing it if they have mixed mode file permissions.

For example:

SMB share points at /ifs/zone1
NFS export points at /ifs/zone1

/isf/zone1  [has ntfs ACLs]
/ifs/zone1/dir1   [has ntfs ACLs]
/ifs/zone1/dir2   [has synthetic ACLs only (posix bits]
/ifs/zone1/dir3   [has synthetic ACLs only (posix bits]

Cohesity claims that it can backup both posix bits and ntfs ACLs -- with a backup via NFS..
I'm not finding that backups/restores that use NFS can restore the ntfs ACLs.. all I get restored are the posix bits.

I'm thinking that to save/restore ntfs ACLs.... the save/restore must use SMB (and not NFS).

Does anyone have any experience like this?
Thanks,
Paul

The best way to backup Isilon storage, is to use a combination of snapshots and replication to a second Isilon.

West snaps and replicates to East
East snaps and replicates to West

Layout filesystem on west like

/ifs/west/application1
/ifs/west/application2

And on east like

/ifs/east/app1
/ifs/east/app2

That way replication restores are obvious to keep track of.  There's more to it, but that's a start.

Thanks for that input, but I'm looking for Isilon and Cohesity specific experience.
