I currently have 2 Isilon clusters running 6.5.5.11.  I was planning to upgrade to 6.5.5.18 in my next service window but started to wonder if I should move to 7 instead.

Has Isilon job performance improved with 7?  If your company was 'betting the farm' on a reliable Isilon, would you go with 6 or 7?

Thanks

Scott

I've had ok experience with OneFS 7.0.1.x. Things seem a bit more stable now with the latest release and it does bring some good things to the table. NFS write latency and the improvements to API, SyncIQ make it worthwhile IMO. I'll say that after working on 7.x almost exclusively for awhile now... I find it hard to go back to 6.5.5.x, at least on the CLI side of things... CLI commands in 7.x are vastly improved IMO.

However some things kinda suck... UI is a biggie... I really don't like it all that much... You'll understand when you start doing quota administration on it with something in excess of 50+ quotas... Makes me rage.  Thankfully, the CLI is good :)

Make sure to work with support prior to upgrading to v7, there is a process in place to ensure a smooth upgrade .

There are significant change in smart pools rules, among others, the process will guide you through a smooth upgrade.

One major change is that if you have different types of nodes currently
in the same pool, they will be split into separate pools during the
upgrade, and that will impact the amount of usable storage.

I would recommend 7.0.2.1. It's a stable release it allows you access to the cluster using REST and is a very stable version of OneFS. Like Luck said you should look at the precheck before upgrading but 7.0.x.x had been very stable and most people I have talked to are pleased with it.

I'd recommend 7.0.1.5 based on the release notes... In particular a bug with the new disk pool configuration you'll see when you upgrade from 6.5.5.x.

There was also a bug that stopped us from adding in a new cluster node types that was fixed in 7.0.1.3.

Thank you Jason

You truly want to go with 7.0.1.6, it has fixes and resolved issues against the published EMC ETAs. See the support.emc.com site, under support by product.

If you want to exploit the accelerator nodes for read intensive workflows or use the REST API calls as Keith suggested, then 7.0.2.1, check with your sales representative for the hardware details.

Have a great weekend.

The 7.0.2.1 release does have the fixes that 7.0.1.6 has in it according to the release notes.

Ah 7.0.2.1... A bit different than 7.0.1.2 :) didn't catch that initially.
