Hi,
does anybody know, if it is possible to hard link directories in OneFS?

I need to replicate a directory structure of multiple subdirectories in a 2nd tree with different order of subdirectories.
e.g.
INSTRUMENT is one out of 5 instruments, COMPANY is one out of 10 companies and GROUP is one out of 20 groups.

first tree: /ifs/groups/INSTRUMENT/COMPANY/GROUP
2nd tree: /ifs/groups/GROUP/COMPANY/INSTRUMENT

thanks!
best regards, Christian.

not possible, but symbolic links should do it — just a bit tricky with SMB.

Christian,

Yes.  It's absolutely possible to hardlink files on OneFS on node and over NFS.

cluster-1# echo $PWD
/ifs/data
cluster
-1# echo "link data" > link1
cluster
-1# ln link1 link2
cluster
-1# cat link2
link data
cluster
-1# cat link1
link data
cluster
-1# echo "newdata" >> link1
cluster
-1# cat link1
link data
newdata
cluster
-1# cat link2
link data
newdata

Correct. Also note by default there is a 1000 max link limit set on hard links per file.

Sure you can hardlink files, but Christian’s idea was to
hardlink directories, which is not possible.
