Hi Everyone,

I am trying to find some additional EMC documentation on the client-side caching policy on individual Isilon CIFS shares.

isi smb shares modify <share>
 --csc-policy, -C {manual | documents | programs | none}
Specifies the client-side caching policy for the shares.

Any information or documentation in this regard will be appreciated and very helpful.

Thank You !

--csc-policy or -C (manual|documents|programs|none)

Client-side caching policy for the shares.

manual - Enables manual client side caching.

documents - Enables automatic caching of documents.

programs - Enables automatic caching of documents and programs.

none - Disables caching.

Not really entirely sure what / how you would do 'manual' client side caching...

This is a Windows thing in the first place, meant
to support working with files while offline from the SMB server.
(as opposed to “performance” caching.)

Windows users can in fact select individual files to
be retained offline, and re-synced when back online,
in the “manual” mode.

This is actively handled by the Windows client,
and of cause needs support on the SMB server, but
there isn’t much to it that would require additional
documentation from EMC/Isilon…
