Hi All,

We are upgrading to 8.1.2 from 8.0.0.6 in our test lab. We are looking to run some tests after the upgrade is done. Test ranging from creating shares/exports and putting files on them to removing disks/cable from nodes to test external failures. Does anyone has a comprehensive test plan that they can share with me. Please let me know

Thanks
Anubhav

Make sure you don’t have zombie exports, that your system is clean. Install DSP v1.29 and node firmware v10.1.2.

There are critical know issues fixed with disk support package v1.29 ( 1.23 , the newer release includes those fixed behaviors and added support of other drives ) , non-disruptive , install and forget.

The node firmware is a rolling upgrade process.

Install latest GA roll up patches ( RUPs), see EMC supportzone.

8.1 add a bit of performance on non-Gen6 gear, aka due to code improvements, Gen5 gets a speed boost.

Luc, any idea on what sort of performance bump can be seen with gen5 gear going to 8.1?

My understanding on Gen5 is ~+10% in conservative terms, some reported up to 15%, depends on the workflow of course, and cluster configuration, quantity of ram per node , etc.

Gen5 cluster of NL400 nodes just upgraded to 8.1.2.0 - cant say empirically but the gui is definately an improvement in performance.
Were migrating this cluster to gen6 A200's and the smartfail time seems signficantly better so there has got to be some performance improvements

Paul

I happy to hear things are moving forward and to your satisfaction. Gen6 is definitely moving forward, lots of great things are happening with the new chassis.

I should have clarified my references.

Gen4 : NL400/X400/S200, etc
Gen5: NL410/X410/S210, etc

Have a great week

Indeed, and keep an eye out for the updates in the form of patches, the incrementally adds fixes and features for the future.
