Hi All,

I have hired for short term project to migrate from Celerra to Isilon Cifs shares. Pls. can any one guide me how to sync completely and cut-over process.

We are using tool secure-copy to migrate data, migration of data is done and  doing incremental data. the cut-over will be in couple weeks.

i need to stop all users to access old Celerra box and do a incremental final sync. how will i achieve this?

I have couple options, unjoin CIFS server from domain or remove network interface for that CIFS server, if i do any of this how will i do a final incremental? Pls can any one advise, its little urgent

My goal is i need to do a smooth cut-over with out loosing any data.

Thanks
Rao

Have you considered marking the filesystems on the celerra as read only then do your final sync and then cutover the users to point to the Isilon?

Its been a while since i did this but iirc you just go into unisphere and go to storage filesystems mounts and then select your filesystem properties there should be an option there to make it read only.  This is the same place that you set te access policy settings which I believe is set to native by default.
Mounts doesn mean nfs in this case it's celerra filesystem vdm terminology.

Thanks Keith, i can see read only option under storage ----> Mounts. i can see all cifs share here, when i right click can see properties and read only option.

So if i do read only that share, no one will able to access right? still i can do incremental sync with all the acls rights even though its read only mode.

I am doing this sync using secure copy.under share permissions can see below option cheked, pls can share your ideas am i doing right/

This option is selected.

I don't want to sound too much like a crank, but...how is it that you
were hired for this project, exactly? You seem to have no familiarity
with either system. This is how I interpret your question: "I managed to
land a job I was not qualified for, and so now I would like free
information from a community of experts that I do not intend to
contribute back to in order to produce profits for myself."

Dude, sometimes the best way to gain credibility as a service provider
is to be honest to potential customers about your limitations...and
certainly the way to gain credibility within a group is to not just
blatantly leech.

I've been very impressed with the generous spirit of this group, and
have both shared and received useful tips, but this thread strikes a
nerve with me personally.

OK...that's all I'll say, but I needed to say it.

There are also isi_vol_copy and isi_vol_copy_vnx that are present in some versions of onefs that use ndmp to pull info from the vnx and celerra to migrate to Isilon.

Ok so this should be pretty simple.  Set up your replication using secure copy to start replicating from celerra/vnx to Isilon.  I would imagine you are going to copy permissions and data over.  After the initial sync is complete secure copy has the option to do incrementals.  i would continue doing those ubtil you are ready to cutover the shares to isilon.  When you are ready to do the cutover go in and mark the filesystem(s) read only on celerra/vnx.  Users will still be able to access the shares but they will have read only access.  Do your final sync and then cutover the users to the Isilon cluster.

Now assuming you are using dfs the users unc path shouldnt need to be changed if you are not doing that and using the smartconnect name for the cluster the users are going to need to be mapped to the new namespace provided by Isilon.

Good luck.

Hello Erik,

Team,

Just do yourself and your end users/managers a favor and open a support case with the Isilon Support Team...  I would think the product is under a support contract ... if not you are out of luck ... or try a OneFS upgrade

furthermore; given the internal details with regards to permissions are quite different i woudl strongly suggest you get some advice from your Local EMC Team (Prof. Services preferably) as you really ...and i mean *really*... risk running into post-migration troubleS which will haunt your nights and your days ...
