بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيم

Surah Baqarah, 2:215

They will ask thee as to what they should spend on others. Say: “Whatever of your wealth you spend, shall (first) be for your parents, and for the near of kin, and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer; and whatever good you do, verily, God has full knowledge thereof.”

It is reported of the sixth Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (a) that the Holy Prophet (S) had said that “Charity in secret, quiets the wrath of God and takes away one’s sin as the water puts out the fire and keeps away seventy kinds of calamities.”

Dear Community Members,

Salaam Alaykum.  Please see below a number of IMPORTANT announcements:

1.  Fundraising.
2.  Pre-authorized payment plan to facilitate donations
3.  Ramadan Programming
4.  Environmental initiatives
5.  Volunteering

1.  Fundraising.

As mentioned at the 15th of Sha'ban program, we have launched an important fundraising initiative: the Ramadan Campaign.  Our funding target this year is $20,000.  While this may sound like a lot.......TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT.  Our critical focus now is on meeting our immediate needs to cover our fixed costs for running Your Centre and for coverage of the additional legal costs related to the transfer of assets to London Jamaat (Al Mehdi Al Muntathar Union).  PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY in this CRITICAL TIME OF NEED.  One of the ways in which you can contribute is by becoming a member if you are not already.  The membership form is attached.   Donations towards the Ramadan.Campaign can be made by e-transfer to treasure...@gmail.com (and notify secretar...@gmail.com with your payment reason - membership fees or donation).  Donations can also be given by cash or cheque to any EC member on the men's side or Sr. Tayyaba or Sr. Najme on the ladies's side.

2.  Pre-authorized payment plan to facilitate donations

We have arranged with TD Bank the option for community members to set up a pre-authorized debit plan (PAD) for automated donations through your bank account.  The TD form is attached to this email, with the Jamaat account information pre-filled.  You simply need to take it to your bank to set it up.  The advantages of this set up are many -  it is a more comfortable way of donating, with less immediate impact of a large lump-sum donation, and it also benefits the Jamaat by providing predictable cash flow to meet its basic monthly needs.  We strongly encourage community members to take up this initiative.  Of course, the PAD can be cancelled at any time.

4.  Environmental initiatives

Alhamdulillah, beginning in 2017, the Jamaat was able to implement some green initiatives to reduce our environmental impact.  This includes reusable plates and utensils, as well as recycling "blue bins".  While most of you enthusiastically adopted these changes, some of you haven't.  We have unfortunately slipped in our performance: some people just leave their plate on the table for someone else to wash.  In the ladies' section, the resistance to the initiatives has been so significant that disposable plates/utensils are again being used, despite reusable options being readily available.  This is extremely unfortunate and reflects poorly on us, especially in the Holy Month of Ramadan.  Thus, we would like to reinvigorate and reinforce these initiatives for this month.  We will NOT be making disposable plates/utensils available in either mens' or ladies' sections.  Only reusable options will be available and you will be expected to wash your own plates/utensils.  Community members are humbly requested to respect these initiatives and do their individual best to cooperate with them.  The earth thanks you!

5.  Volunteering

There is a HUGE need for volunteers during Ramadan.  The need is especially so in the ladies' section.  Sisters are humbly requested to commit themselves to volunteer/lend a hand to the the members of the POC - it is a tough job, especially so in Ramadan, but with YOUR collective efforts, the well-being of ALL, and the true SPIRIT of Ramadan can be promoted.  If you are interested in stepping up or offer a commitment to volunteer on specific nights, please contact members of the POC teams (Brs. Hassan Raza and Ahmed Raza on the mens' side; Srs. Najme and Tayyaba on the ladies' side)..

Jazakallah, and we look forward to your continued participation in upcoming RAMADAN programs. Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions

Wassalam,
