Ishtar's January update!

I hope everyone is having a good start to their new year!

2008 will be a busy year for Ishtar; we look forward to sharing our unique style of BellyRock music with our family, friends and fans!

On January 19, Ishtar will be playing a 2 hour set (yes -- that is TWO hours) of classic bellydance songs with our special Ishtar edge for dancers Tribe Taksim and Firasha at the DownUnder Coffeehouse. The Coffeehouse is an all ages venue located at the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church at 416 West North Ave on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Admission is $5.

On January 21, Ishtar raqs the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern for the MLK benefit show. All proceeds benefit the New Orleans Women's Shelter. In January of 2006, Common Ground Relief opened the New Orleans Women's Shelter in the upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans to meet the needs of underserved low-income New Orleans residents. The Women's Shelter is staffed entirely by volunteers from across the nation who donate their time to improving the living conditions for women and children in New Orleans. Cover is $5 for the poor folks and $10 for the rich. Donations in addition to the cover charge will be graciously accepted. Also performing will be: Devilish Merry, Evan Knauer, Jennie Snyder, Molly in the Crowd, Welcome Abe, Moonlight Motel and perhaps PhatManDee.

The REAL big news is that on January 27, Ishtar will be one of five featured bands at Mr. Small’s Theater for the Sonic Funhouse series!  The Sonic Funhouse series is sponsored by Creative Life Support, a Liz Berlin organization. Tickets are $8 and need to be purchased in advance from a band member. Comcast will be filming all five bands and YOU can be on television if you come see us play. In addition to Ishtar, also performing will be PhatManDee, LaBicicleta Blanca (salsa music), Cellofourte and AnaVey. Five of Pittsburgh’s most eclectic bands on one stage for a mere $8! Show starts at 7PM.
