Look along the header and select "Join this group"

Send an email to me with your preferred email address.

When I used that link on my iPod, I couldn’t find any way to join the group.

When I used the link on a desktop computer, I was taken to a page with a “Apply to Join this Group” button, which I clicked, and walked through the procedure to join. Seems to have worked fine.
