My university is having the following talk about IDS tech in high-flow
academic networks:

Please join us:

* Who: Keith Lehigh, University Information Policy Office
* What: Finding a diamond on the beach: Large scale intrusion detection
* When: Tuesday, July 3, 1-2:30pm
* In person: Psychology 100 (IU Bloomington)
* Live stream: http://go.iu.edu/5mn
* Archive stream: http://go.iu.edu/5mo

Keith Lehigh will highlight general approaches to Intrusion Detection
Systems (IDS), as well as the unique challenges presented by a high
volume academic network. He will also discuss IU's use of Snort, Bro,
and Openflow to build a clustered IDS.

Keith has worked for the University Information Policy Office since
2009. He primarily focuses on network security monitoring, and
recently built and deployed the largest Bro cluster in operation.
Before coming to UIPO, Keith oversaw security, system administration,
and support for Research Technologies -- and he did sys admin work for
them in such varied places as Greenland and Antarctica.

For more, see: http://incntre.iu.edu/calendar

The live stream link appears to have no authentication so it should be
open to everyone.

Cheers,
DrWhom

Will there be any hands on labs or anything that would be missed out on by attending via live stream vs in person?

Based on what I've received it will just be a descriptive talk from
our IT Security & Policy office. Shouldn't be too much different than
watching it in person other than I doubt they'll have a way for
questions to be asked.

Cheers,
Dr. Whom

The live stream doesn't seem to be loading properly.  Anybody else have any luck with it?

Some folks were saying it was jumpy for them. I'm getting a decent feed from:

http://www.indiana.edu/~video/stream/liveflash.html?filename=Summer_of_Networking_Keith_Lehigh

It's working fine in Chromium.

Cheers,
Nathaniel
