I don't want it either. I could require approval for new members before they get to post. But that seriously hampers support time.

I have to talk about this with some people who use google for discussion lists. I ban addresses that do this, but they never try the same address twice. So that doesn't help.

I may need to look for a different place to host this. Either that or start a registration process.

You could turn on the feature that only new members are moderated.
That should help stop the fake members from being able to post. Once
you approve a new member, then they could post without moderation.
That setting is under group settings, access, very last item.
