Dear list,
on behalf of Prof. Martin Ziegler from Kiel University (Germany), I
would like to forward this job opening:
--
At the Institute of Materials Science at Kiel University, the *Chair of
Energy Materials and Devices (Prof. Dr. Martin Ziegler) has *now offered
a position as
*Research Assistant (m/f/d) *
until 30.9.2028. Salary will be paid according to E 13 TV-L. The regular
weekly working time corresponds to 75% of a full employment (currently
29.025 hours). The opportunity to prepare for a doctorate is given.
The position is part of the research group "NeuroSensEar: Neuromorphic
acoustic sensor technology for high-performance hearing aids of
tomorrow", funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. The aim of the research
group is to integrate principles of biological information processing
into hearing aid technology and to investigate interactive outputs for
better listening comprehension so that people with hearing impairments
largely regain their ability to perceive hearing. Further information on
the Research Unit can be found on the project website under

*Area of responsibility *
The aim of the subproject is to understand biological principles of
auditory signal processing using various model systems from animals
(especially insects) in order to derive innovative solutions to increase
performance and efficiency for hearing aid technology. The project is
carried out in collaboration with the Animal Physiology Group (Prof. M.
Nowotny, Dr. Stefan Schöneich) at the Friedrich Schiller University in
Jena. The scientific focus of the position to be filled in Kiel is in
the field of mathematical modelling of auditory systems of insects. The
aim is to reconstruct biological models in such a way that they can be
reproduced by numerical models, which can then be transferred to
technical systems; so-called neuromorphic systems.
**
*Employment requirements: *
• Scientific degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering,
neuroscience, physics, mathematics, or a related field of study
• Extensive programming knowledge in Matlab, Python, or C/C++
• Basic knowledge of auditory systems and modeling of neural circuits
• Professional competence in one or more of the following areas is
desirable: algorithms for hearing aids, bioacoustics, neuronal and
technical signal processing, neuromorphic systems
• Motivation and ability to work scientifically with an independent and
responsible way of working are essential
• Communication and teamwork skills, as well as very good written and
spoken English skills (comparable to at least level B2) are necessary
(knowledge of German is an advantage but not essential).
*We offer: *
• a good work-life balance due to the possibility of variable working hours
• Employee conditions in various institutions (canteen, university
sports, job tickets)
• 30 days of vacation per year
• a company pension scheme with a high co-payment by the employer
• Etc.

Applications from severely disabled people and their equivalents will be
given preference if they are suitable.
*Required documents: *
• A short curriculum vitae (2 pages).
• A short but meaningful letter of motivation (1 page) in which you
convincingly state your interest in this research opportunity.
Please send applications including CV and copies of university
certificates *by 08.01.2025 *as a single pdf file by e-mail to:
