Hello Parents,

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10. Next week!

The PA is encouraging each class to pull something together for our teachers, keepsakes from the kiddos, art work, cards.

If anyone has any great ideas please respond to the group. AS soon as possible

Thank you.

Hello again,
After receiving some feedback, we've decided that each class should determine the activity that is appropriate for their classroom. It can be a keepsake gift (for each teacher in the class) created by the classroom's respective families or a class-organized breakfast for the entire class. Please feel free to share ideas here on this email thread.
Best,
Susanna

Subject: Re: Teacher Appreciation Week (same email new title)

I have been asked to share some examples.
Below are a few ideas that were discussed at the last PA Chairs meetup.

1. Potluck lunch in the Teachers' Lounge made by CP's
2. Give the teachers kids' drawings bound into books.
3. Give signed class picture after the potluck lunch.

There are some logistical issues with #1.

The teachers take lunch breaks at different times, so the food would need to be set up for the teachers to help themselves, and we would need someone to help clean up, return dishes, etc.

We had also talked about breakfast, however, it would be awkward for the kids to not receive a breakfast, just the teacher, etc. and it would also interfere with their morning schedule.

Hello Class Parents,

In preparation for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10), the PA would like to organize and show our appreciation to all of our teachers. We are brainstorming on a number of activities, but contacting you because the kids and parents have a more intimate relationship with their respective teachers. It can be something that the kids put together with their parents, or something organized by the parents in your classroom. As Class Parents, please send me your ideas by Tuesday and then we'll discuss next steps.

Best,
Susanna

in  mario's  old school in holland the following was done for each student, but maybe they can do it for the teachers: essentially, each kid draws angela and katy (each on a different paper) and writes their favourite thing about them on the page. one or 2 parent volunteers would put this together into one book. nice front cover and some added glitter stuff.

I like this as well.
Do we all think we can get drawings done of Katy and Angelica on 8.5x11 paper this week?
I will keep an envelope in Jacob's backpack and collect on Friday.

Thank you !

Yes, great idea!  Unless anyone objects, can we agree to a few guidelines to make it easier for the person pulling the books together?  My thoughts below.  Can everyone:

1) use blank copy paper (ie, 8.5x11 unlined printer paper) so pages are of uniform size and thickness

2) submit all art in landscape format

3) have all artists sign their work on the lower right hand corner

Good?

No ... I am not volunteering this time around, just trying to make it easy for the person that does. ;-)

Besides, I am getting a few plants for the classroom this week so I trust I will be busy potting and preparing those. The annual plant sale is going on today thru Thurs at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Kathy was excited about getting some plants for the classroom (I offered before I knew it was teacher appreciation week.)

If anyone has good plant suggestions, please text me today. Kathy suggested something "that smells nice" so I'm  picking up a few herbs that don't invite bugs (eg, verbena, rosemary) and a couple of plants from the NASA list that are said to improve air quality AND are good for science experiments (eg, spider plant is easy to propagate from cuttings).  Kathy also said she would love a "brightly colored" plant so if anyone had ideas on something suitable for a classroom, let me know!  I love plants, but my green thumb is still under development.

African Violets are soft, easy to care for and repeatedly sprout nice purple flowers

Geraniums are also great b/c they are easy to care for and repeatedly have flowers

Hi Ana,
would it be terrible if the art is not landscaped?  I was so proud to remember
and set Ayodele on his task, made sure he signed and didn't go beyond the
borders....and then re-read your email and realized I had him draw it vertical!
i had it ready to drop off today, so let me know ...
sorry!

Hi Folks

We have placed a FedEx envelope in Jacobs back pack, Please save all drawings in the envelope. If the kids want to include anything else please add that as well.
I will collect all the drawings on Friday and assemble over the weekend.

I was thinking that I would scan the class photo from this year and use it as the cover of the book. If there are any photos out there that you all would like to send me of the class I can use for the inside front and back covers.

Please email me directly if you have any questions.
Thank you

My guess is yours won’t be the only one going vertical so I wouldn’t worry about it – getting it done is the most important – James since you will be assembling them do you have an opinion?
