Java BII formats publication links for a CiteXplore service/ID, formatted :

http://www.ebi.ac.uk/citexplore/citationDetails.do?externalId=17010675&dataSource=MED

I see that that https://www.ebi.ac.uk/citexplore throws "We’re sorry but we can’t find the page or file you requested".

Any guidance on using that service?  Will EBI resurrect/redirect it?  Should we edit the template to redirect it somewhere else?

-John

PS:  I also contacted the EBI about this service/link.

Hi John,

I also noticed the CiteExplore link had gone (or moved?) yesterday while trying to build a new ISA creator that relies on its Web service WSDL, but hadn't had a chance to follow up with EBI myself.

Please do let us know when you hear back from them about the status as I'm not sure about what's happening there either.

Best/David

Hi David, John, All,

CiteXplore was replaced by EuropePMC - it seems that BII was not updated to the new service. ISAcreator was updated, though, but the problem in ISAcreator could be due to the new version 5.2 (but haven't checked). See announcement below.

Thanks,

Alejandra

Dear Europe PMC Web Service Users,

We have now deployed the new web services (SOAP and Restful) version 5.2 to our production environment. We have moved version 5.1 to our test server. Please find below the relevant URLs to the test and production version:

SOAP WSDL:

REST URL Syntax Examples:

The following improvements have been made to version 5.2; these will affect the WSDL:
  • We added a new parameter “inlineImages” to the getSupplementaryFiles response to exclude the inline images.
  <soapenv:Header/>
  <soapenv:Body>
     <web:getSupplementaryFiles>
        <!--Optional:-->
        <id>PMC3424553</id>
        <!--Optional:-->
        <source>PMC</source>
        <!--Optional:-->
        <inlineImages>no</inlineImages>
        <!--Optional:-->
        <email>myE...@mail.com</email>
     </web:getSupplementaryFiles>
  </soapenv:Body>
</soapenv:Envelope>

See in the response:
        <return>
           <request>
              <id>PMC3424553</id>
              <source>PMC</source>
              <inlineImages>true</inlineImages>
              <email> myE...@mail.com </email>
           </request>
           <pmcid>PMC3424553</pmcid>
        </return>

The default value for “inlineImages” is true. The valid values are “y”, “yes”, “true”, “n”, “no” and “false”.
An example for the RESTful service is .../rest/PMC3424553/supplementaryFiles/inlineImages=no
The old way without the new parameter still works: .../rest/PMC3424553/supplementaryFiles
  • The parameter “synonym” for the methods “searchPublications” and “profilePublications” has been changed from Boolean to String. The default value is “false” as before. The parameter “synonym” accepts the same values as “inlineImages”, the valid values are “y”, “yes”, “true”, “n”, “no” and “false” (case insensitive).
  • The response element “firstPublicationDate” of the searchPublications webmethod is now part of the “lite” response as well.
  • A new RESTful POST request is available: “searchPOST”. The reason for this new method is that different browsers have different accepted maximum URL lengths, and the same issue occurs with different servers, proxies and firewalls. The POST method has the same parameters as the GET method “search”, the parameters just have to be sent as form parameters.
  • The RESTful requests “search” and “searchPOST” also accept the parameter “resulttype” in camelcase “resultType” now too. Both versions are supported. This makes the parameter naming consistent.

Kind regards,
Europe PMC team

Haven't heard back from EBI regarding redirection possibilities on their end,
but I suppose I should just edit our repository to go to either

or

[I rarely went to CiteXplore service, so I don't recall what specifics it provided or looked like]

Hi John

Indeed, you'd have to change the BII webapp to update the link the relevant literature resource.

Citexplore has been phased out and replaced by a new service

all the best
