Subject: Bioinformatics at IDC - research positions

An expanding bioinformatics and computational biology group at the
School of Computer Science at IDC in Herzeliya
(http://portal.idc.ac.il/en/schools/cs/home/pages/homepage.aspx )
is seeking strong candidates for research positions at several levels:

1.    Master students. For a computer science degree with a focus on
bioinformatics and computational biology. Research will focus on data
and information science with applications in areas like personalized
medicine, high throughput measurement data analysis, evolution,
synthetic biology.
Qualifications:
a.    BSc in computer science or equivalent
b.    Command of at least one efficient programming language
c.     Statistics and data analysis experience – an advantage
d.    Strong interest in science and research motivation

2.    PhD or MA/MSc level research positions. This position can be
post-doctoral or pre-doctoral level. Research will focus on data and
information science with applications in areas like personalized
medicine, high throughput measurement data analysis, evolution,
synthetic biology.
The successful candidate will address state of the art research
questions. He/She will develop and improve statistical and data
analysis tools and apply them to biological data, including in
collaboration with leading biology and medical science research
groups, in an international setting.
Work will be presented internally and externally, including
conferences, and is expected to be published in leading scientific
literature.
Qualifications:
a.    PhD or MA/MSc degree in computer science or equivalent
b.    Independent research experience as evidenced by publications
c.     Command of at least one efficient programming language
d.    Statistics and data analysis experience – an advantage
e.    Working knowledge of molecular biology and genomics – an advantage
f.      Strong interest in science and research motivation
g.    Excellent communication and presentation skills

Senior bioinformatics faculty members at IDC include Ilan Gronau and
Zohar Yakhini. In the department, research is also conducted in other
fields of computer science such as cryptography, modelling, security
and theory.

Accepted candidates can also explore involvement in IDC’s teaching activities.
